I’m a dialup user, using Intel V.90 56 k modem over telephone line. Whenever I had tried to upload a large file more then 200 kilobytes my modem stops responding. The recieving bytes stops.
That also happens during voice chat and whenever I use my webcam. Tell me where is the main fault and how could I get rid of it…:confused:December 3, 2004 at 8:41 pm #107018DavidParticipanthave you tried re-installing your modem driver? What OS are you using?
December 3, 2004 at 8:44 pm #107021shifterMemberIf Dave’s suggestion doesn’t work, perhaps it’s time for a new modem? New ones are pretty cheap, but you can usually get a decent used one at your local computer repair shop or pawn shop too.
December 3, 2004 at 8:45 pm #107023AqeelParticipantI had reinstalled my Modem and I’m using Windows XP. One of my friends told me to minimize the modem speed to 9.6 kb. I had done so and that had helped me but not so…

December 5, 2004 at 6:29 pm #107022MartinBradleyMemberOf course we are. Have you tried shifter’s suggestion? He is right, internal dialup modems are very cheap. Might be time for a new one.
December 6, 2004 at 7:21 pm #107025AqeelParticipantIt’s not time for a new one, even it but it’s not a perfect solution of the problem. I had bought this one about 2 months ago, 1st I’ll try to fix it. If the problem will not be solved then I will change it as the modem is in warranty.
December 6, 2004 at 8:40 pm #107019DavidParticipantHave you called your ISP to get the correct configuration settings? You may be forcing too much speed, and thus breaking the connection.
December 6, 2004 at 8:51 pm #107026AqeelParticipantYes, may be you are right David but I think it’s not the problem as I already cut down the modem speed to 9.6 kbs from 56 kbs…
December 6, 2004 at 9:42 pm #107020DavidParticipantThere is more than one setting for dial up modems, please call your ISP and explain the problem and ask what they can do. Otherwise if you feel our suggestions are right, buy a new modem?
December 11, 2004 at 6:37 am #107027PuerMemberWell with dial up you can’t upload to much nor download nor use webcam.
It is using dialup I would say.
Get basic DSL and it’ll be able to do all that and be faster for not much more. -
