Not to insult Tigerblade, really, but I don’t like the way the current BBBloging is done, it’s too simple for me, and alt-webring is…meh. So I’m currently working on a custom-coded Bloging site for BBB. It will include secure user login, registration, site title, description, URL, image, rating, and hits. Once I get everytihng up and running, and if it’s befoe the new year, I’ll post the URL to the beta here so you all can see it and help test it. I’m really looking forward to the new year with all the changes!
heh, no worries. the only reason i started the current one is that the one Sami had found wasn’t all that terrific (which she admitted). If you wanna write up a new one, more power to you, I’ll even be the first to sign up on it. My only concern is that everyone who’s signed up on the current one will have to switch and redo the registration, redo the information, etc… not that it’s a big deal, but some people might not want to do it.
just a thought. i’m interested to see what you come up with.
Well, that wasn’t as hard as I expected it to be. Here’s the beta, please report any bugs here in this thread, seeing as how this is the first time I’ve ever coded a blogring.
Go ahead and add your site, the more sites that get added, the better it can be tested (and the more popular BigBlueBall looks!) I’d appreciate any feedback, as well.
well… here’s what i’ve noticed thus far.
1. the Random code should never select the source site. meaning, i clicked random on my site and got my own site.
2. this is probably because there’s only a few sites thus far, but the Random code seems to be not very random. I’m gonna let this slide for now cause there’s only four sites at the moment :-potherwise very slick.
The random code going to your own site has been fixed, thanks for pointing that out. And there’s not much I can do about the way it cycles, I mean, it generates a random number by itself, so…it’s random, I can’t control it. I think you’re right; We need to wait for more sites to get added forst.
Spike, I really like your thing, so I guess I better go ahead and change the codes on my site to these – this is the new blogroll thing we are using right?
I added mine… but the first time it didn’t work, PHP errors, but the second time I made a mistake in the email address… Spike can you fix it?

i can get him the info he’ll need for it, but what about the whole password thing? i mean… i have access to each site’s password (not that it really means anything) but wouldnt that defeat the point of the passwords? plus, even if they all do get imported, very few of the people will have the accurate links on their pages. actually, very few of the sites on the current ring have the code to begin with…
I’d rather they re-register, anyway, this gives them a chance to update their info, as needed, and to set their own passwords, as well. Some people might not use their blogs, and some people might have gotten blogs since then, so it’s easier this way.

I know it’s live, and there was a password controversy, but what about cookies? I like to not have to login all the time.
Also, what about making it mandatory for them to add they BBB username, becuase it took me a minute to figure out Sami’s, I know you will probably find out by going to their blog, but knowing whose it is before hand is good.
Why would you have to login frequntly, anyway? It’s designed so that you input your information, then you can watch your stats from the Bloglist page. You don’t have to be logged in to access the Bloglist, so I don’t see a need to add cookies.
The other, idea, however, I do like. Maybe if I have a few minutes, I’ll code that into it. Thanks for the idea.
