I’m really not the MFH, but I desperately need some “geek” help. I don’t think I’m asking for anything illegal. My son, who is a minor, is involved in some activities that will ultimately land him in Juvenile Hall if they aren’t stopped. I do not want this to happen!
He is on a Mac G5, OS 10.4, and spends all his time on IM. QUESTION – is there someway I can view the history and content of his chats? Are they stored somewhere on the hard drive? Does it matter whether or not IM is active?
If someone out there can help me, I’d be extremely grateful. And you would be helping a kid from possibly ruining his future….
I am posting this on several forums in the hope of getting some help. If you have already viewed this elsewhere, my apologies.
Thanks
I’m not familiar with Macs, but I’m sure someone can chime in with some information for you.
I take considering the fact this is in the AIM forum, you are referring to him using AOL Instant Messenger (although you just said IM). Anyway, my AIM does not save conversation logs, and I use AIM Classic. I’m almost sure Triton doesn’t either, but other clients like Trillian do. What client does he use? I’m not a Mac expert, but I’m sure with some other information I could research and get some answers.
Hi Mom! 🙂
Do you know if he’s using AIM Services for Mac, or iChat? AIM Services for Mac does not support chat logs. iChat comes with the Mac and works with AIM as well, so he’s probably using that.
iChat does allow logging of chats (although it’s configurable, and he may have turned that feature off). If he does log his chats, you might take a look at a program called Logorrea that will let you read the logs.
I don’t have a Mac either, but it looks like this might help. Good luck!
