ParticipantI have a movie on my computer, in MPEG format… problem is that its 1.2 GB, so i want to convert it to something a little smaller, like DivX. BUT… i cant find a good converter for free. I found a few programs that will let you convert the first 40 seconds before you have to buy the full version, but that doesnt do me any good.
Anyone out there know a good FREE video converter, preferably for MPEG to DivX or to AVI format???
thanks

ParticipantCheck out this list at http://www.divx-digest.com .
I would recommend trying out DVD2AVI or eXstream MPEG.

MemberWell tigerblade I would suggest you to use Dr DivX for compression… It is the coolest software for conversion
Also, if you can then try Sound Forge also… It doesnt convert to DivX but converts to many other formats… you can select diffrent settings and bitrates…

Memberwell Dee I have soundforge and it does video conversion
for your information I am posting this pic over here… It shows that I am converting the song Clocks by Coldplay from .mpg to .wmv
I also had this feeling that Sound Forge is just a sound conversion tool but it is a very good and fast video conversion software…. Below you can see that I am converting the video to 700Kbps and sound at 128Kbps which is defined by me… many default templates are also present in the software… you can also detach / attach a video using this software…I hope above info has cleared your doubt and also of others who were thinking this…

Membercoolguyj2, Thanx for the heads up on Soundforge.. You get one free kick to what I sit on, blush.
I should have checked obviously.
The pix removed all doubt, nice touch….
