MemberFirstly, what version of MSN Messenger do you have?
What is your ISP?
What type of Internet connection do you have?April 10, 2004 at 9:33 pm #81589MDK

MemberIts a strange problem, you said you’d tried a trojan and antivirus scan, make sure the virus definitions are up to date. If they are, then i’d probably rule out that it was a trojan.
After you’ve removed MSN Messenger, check the registry to make sure all keys for MSN Messenger have been deleted. You can simply use the search facility in the registry to do that. It could be a lengthy process, but once you’ve checked that all MSN Messenger keys have been deleted, then install MSN again.April 10, 2004 at 10:14 pm #81588MDK

ParticipantHow long does MSN pull ’15k’ of bandwidth? And 15KBits or 15KBytes? I don’t know that much of the MSN protocol, but it may simply be that the client is sending a lot of data to the server and/or the server is sending the client a lot of data in a short amount of time.
If you have a 1Mbit (Or 1MByte, but I think you mean MBit) connection, why do you worry about 15k?

Membercleared the reg
4.7 not hoggin bandwith at the mo
15kbps is half my upload speed
i have 30k (256) upload
and 1Mbit connection
gonna go for ir and reinstall 6.1 and see what happens
i neeeeed my MSN lol

MemberOk yeah I’ve gotta say i’m stuck as to how to help you now. However I do agree with David, I too do not know much about the MSN protocol, but yeah it may just be sending data or recieving data. Do you have Windows XP? If so try disabling Windows Messenger, its a long shot, but y’never know. To find out how to disable Windows Messenger, go to the MSN Messenger section on this very website, theres a whole thread about that.

ParticipantCan you please try to be more clear (Like using sentences and proper grammar instead of fragments separated by blank lines), it’ll get you more help faster.
I think your confusing KBits and KBytes still, you probably have a 256KBit connection (30KBytes), therefore 15Kbps (Kilobits/second) is only 1/17th of your bandwidth.
And again, does it hog the bandwidth ONLY during login, or the entire time you are online?

Memberok it seems I have sorted it after clearing the reg
it was continuously uploading and downloading and didnt stop
it seemed ok after 4.7 so I installed 6.1 again after clearing out the registry
and now it all seems fine
wierd tho dont really know what it was but its stopped even tho no spyware was found?? I also took a few bits out with hijack
apologies if my spellin and grammer aint up to much…i just write it as I think it.. 🙁
thanx for all your help on this matter
keep up the good work mods!! 😉

MemberI think if you toss that loadqm file you see in task manager it will solve your problems, little snoop thing 😡 bill 😡 incorporated in messenger.Messenger runs just fine w/o it,run msconfig and disable it from start-up.
