ive just joined this forum as im now beyond desperation! i cannot install msn 6 get error 1603 ,i had msn 6 and although it didnt always sign me in it worked ok.then it just stopped working tried all the usual stuff different account log in etc,no joy. ive been reading this forum topic and have so far tried everything suggested by your members ,nothing works for me please help b4 this thing goes in the bin im running xp pro, and ive also been 2 msn help blah blah !!!!
Um, I guess you didnt look too hard, because there is a topic about three topics down, that never moves. It reads, Error Code 1601/1603 Solutions.
But no big deal. The best solution I’d give you is to upgrade to version 6.1. The newest version doesn’t have this problem.It’s even covered in our MSN frequently asked questions!

I tried all the solutions offered in this thread and none worked. I have winxp pro, and this was for messenger 6.1
So I just said what the hell and went and downloaded msn messenger 5 from here http://g.msn.com/7MEEN_US/EN/NT4/SETUPNT.EXE
and then tried to update the program. It didnt do that either.
After installation of 5 and able to upgrade, i went and tried to install 6.1 on its own, and voila. It worked. I have no idea why it worked.
Please note that i had first unzipped the 6.1 download executable w/ winzip before running the msi, as sombody else in this thread had said to do.
