ive asked this before but I think it got deleted or just withered away…
anyway, where does msn 6 store the password anyway? Is it in the registry? does ANYONE know???
I really need to know this as I have long forgotten my password…
Thanks
HW
If you can’t find it under the obvious areas in the registry, then I doubt you will find it there at all. It won’t appear in the registry at all if you don’t have the “Save my email and password” box checked. Your best bet is to just reset it here.
but I DO have it checked so its like I can still sign in…and I cant reset it (otherwise why would I bother asking this?) because I have a secret question and answer thats jibberish!
Its gotta be stored somewhere…ANYONE?
Microsoft has embeded it too well within the registry. It would take too long to find it. So your best answer is, yes it’s in there, but you probably wont find it.
While the password is likely stored in the registry, it is encrypted. In order to find your password from your registry you would need to decrypt the password. Each version of MSN Messenger likely has new locations and new encryptions as well. If you don’t have the ability to decrypt the password, then the location of it is rather useless anyway.
Try reseting your password from this form instead – http://registernet.passport.net/contactushm.srf?lc=1033&sd=p
