When trying to sign into MSN 6.1, I kept getting the error message
“Your contact list is not availalbe. please try again later”. Usually, it would let me sign in on the second attempt, but later it wouldnt let me sign in at all.To try to fix this problem, I uninstalled and reinstalled MSN 6.1. However, this has made the problem worse, as I now cannot open messenger at all. I just get the error message
“this version of MSN is not configured properly. Reinstalling may help to fix this”I have tried reinstalling and it has made no difference. I download 6.0 from http://www.oldversion.com and this works perfectly, as does windows messenger. When I tried to upgrade back to 6.1, I got the error message again.
The problem seemed to start after I upgraded to AOL 9.0. I use windows XP home. Any Suggestions??

Quote:quote:Since around March 20th MSN Messenger users started to get the following error message upon connecting:“You cannot use Messenger at this time because your contact list is not availalbe [sic]. Please try again later. Click Help to learn more about your contact list 0x81000378”
Today the number of reports of this error is growing. This is a .NET Messenger server-side and passport account-specific problem so if you’re stuck with this error for hours and hours, there’s not much you can do but temporarily create (or use) another account to log into MSN Messenger after all.
April 14, 2004 at 3:22 pm #82239Red DevilMemberI’ve re-read my first post and realise it wasn’t very clear. Sorry.
My main problem is I can no longer open messenger 6.1. This began to happen after I reinstalled 6.1. When I try to open it I get the error message
“Msn messenger is not configured properly. Reinstalling may fix this problem.”Reinstallling does not help. 6.0 used to work but now i’m being made to update it. However, windows messenger still works.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

get a registry cleaner and clean your registry then download from microsofts site, dont get it from another place…
u have to copy and paste it coz clickin on it will get you nowhere!
that should fix it..

April 14, 2004 at 11:33 pm #82245JAMDiZzLeMemberI have the same problem only it is worse. I get that application is not figured correctly message and I dont know what to do about it. So I reinstalled an older version of MSN and I was content with that. But when I tried to sign on today, it forced me to download 6.1 or I couldnt get on. So now I am back to the same problem.

April 21, 2004 at 10:53 am #82243912Participantburn your all your valuable stuff on cd’s then reformat…..Best Option.. Sigh:)
April 22, 2004 at 7:01 pm #82247extrodityMemberwell since I dont have 65 GIGs worth of writable CDs, and I have the same problem, is there any other way around it? it also affects MSN Messneger 6.2 FYI
April 23, 2004 at 4:19 pm #82237Red DevilMemberLike extrodity said, MSN 6.2 does not work either. There has to be some other way around it, as I have to much stuff and not enough time to burn it and format the hard drive. Anyone got any other suggestions? im really sick of windows messenger :(.
April 24, 2004 at 3:11 pm #82236Red DevilMemberOk I fixed the problem but im not sure how. On messenger 6.2, I used repair instead of uninstall and reinstall and its working now. However, this did not work when I tried it on 6.1. Anyone who has this problem, try downloading 6.2 and then repairing it and it should work.
