I’m positive it’s been addressed before, but I’ve been searching all the Google results (even ones in different languages!) and I’m starting to get desperate.
Okay. It’s that notorious 81000306 error message. The one that says “We were unable to sign you in to MSN Messenger, possibly because of a problem with the service or with your Internet connection. Please make sure you are connected to the Internet.”
Yes, MSN, I am connected to the Internet. And any other possibilities, I’ve pretty much ruled out. I’ve checked my firewall, I’ve deleted and reinstalled (several versions, even), I’ve troubleshooted my head off, and still it refuses to let me log on.
GoogleTalk is functional at all, but… Right.
Please help!
(Again, sorry, I’m pretty sure this has been covered before.)
May 14, 2006 at 9:07 am #144386marie132Memberwhen that happened to me, i did CTRL ALT DEL and exited MSN messenger, then turned it back on and tried again.
if it doesnt work, try what they say on this forum
http://www.imzers.com/msn/solve/error-code-81000306
also as i see there is a BBB answer you might wanna try reading it
https://bigblueball.com/forums/msn-messenger-support/27445-connectivity-error-common-error-solutions.htmland make sure you typed ur password correctly!! for instance if u have a passport other than hotmail, changing ur email password WILL NOT automatically change u msn password. (i didnt know that myself at first)
hope this helps!

May 15, 2006 at 3:01 am #144388supertangoMemberThanks to both of you, but I’ve been there done that. I came across each of those possible fixes, and none of them worked.
Any other suggestions?
May 15, 2006 at 3:11 am #144383princeGParticipantHow many hours is it that you’re expiriencing this problem? Usually with this error all you have to do is wait for a bit and then it should start working again.
May 15, 2006 at 3:18 am #144387williamleeMembermsn tech department suggested this.
1.From the Internet Explorer menu, click “Tools” and
then click “Internet Options”.
2. In the “Internet Options” dialog box, open
the “Connections” tab.
3. Click “LAN Settings”.
4. Clear the “Automatically Detect Settings” checkbox.
5. Click “OK” to save the setting and then click “OK”
again.hope it helps
May 17, 2006 at 10:54 pm #144389supertangoMemberThis problems goes on for hours.. (and hours and hours and hours…)
It’s definitely not reasonable waiting time 🙁I don’t use IE, but I did checked that out anyway. The box was already cleared.
I’m really sorry to keep shooting down all these great intentions, but nothing seems to work.. :/
May 17, 2006 at 11:34 pm #144384princeGParticipantAre you on Msn 7.5? I really advise you to upgrade to the new Windows Live Messenger Beta instead of trying a series of solutions that might just eat time and nothing more and in the end might not solve the problem and make you feel more and more desperate.
Visit the ideas.live.com website, scroll down to the Windows Live Messenger section and click download. It’s worth it, believe me.
