MemberHi all,
can you experts shed your light on this one please? 🙂
WinXP Pro (no SP1), connected via cable through WLAN, Router with integrated firewall, IE6, installed last version of MSN Msgr.
Now, the prob: my messenger connects fine, and stays connected for a while, but then all of a sudden signs out and signs back in (so my status is Online). This happens during chats or also when I’m not doing anything. Everything worked fine until a couple of weeks ago. Other messengers like ICQ or Yahoo Msgr stay connected fine, can browse pages through IE, so a cable or WLAN problem can be ruled out.
Opened up all relevant ports on the firewall for MSN Msgr, same prob.
Did the regsrv32 softpub.dll procedure, same prob.
Tried to connect through proxy or not, same prob.
Security settings seem ok too in IE.
The previous version didn’t seem to behave like this, and my configuration hasn’t changed in the meantime (no Windows Update or whatever).Any suggestions, cuz I’m running out of options to check 🙁
Thanks in advance for your advice!
Steven

ParticipantMaybe MSN and Windows Msgr. are fighting to be connected?
Have you ever logged into Windows Messrnger before? I had this problem for a while, it turned out to be that Windows Messenger would sign in and kick me off, then MSN would kick Windows Messenger off again…was weird.
If you don’t use Windows Messenger or it’s features, you can uninstall it.

MemberIf you don’t want to unistall it you can use gpedit.msc to disable it, since you use Win XP Pro. Start, Run, gpedit.msc

MemberThx for the suggestions, but don’t think it will change anything, because Windows Msgr wasn’t even configured.
Anything else I can try?

ParticipantDo you have a software firewall that might be doing something to it?
Are you using a proxy?

MemberNope, no software firewall, have been using a hardware firewall/router for years, without any problems with the previous version.
And yes, my ISP forces me to use their proxy, but this has never caused any problems in the past either.
