MemberWhen installing Messenger Plus, you will have most likely installed the sponsor program which came with it. This is optional. Reinstall Messenger Plus, and take care during the installation to read what it says, make sure you check the “I Refuse, do not install the sponsor program” box.

The fact of the matter is, if you were not smart enough to read what you were installing, that is no ones fault but your own. If you want to come here and whine about it, you have no one else but your slef but to blame, not Patchou.

ParticipantMessenger Plus! comes with an optional sponsor program. This program will show ads from time to time on your computer, add a search bar in Internet Explorer and may change your start page. In NO case this sponsor is mandatory or dangerous. If you don’t want it, simply refuse the sponsor agreement during the setup and you will never hear about it again. If you installed the sponsor by error, just uninstall Messenger Plus! (it will trigger the sponsor uninstall program), reboot your computer, and reinstall without the sponsor if you want to continue to use Messenger Plus!.
Important: if you wish to get rid of the sponsor program, you must uninstall Messenger Plus! from the Add/Remove Programs window. If you start deleting files on your own you will prevent a full system restore as some of the files copied by the sponsor are backups of your original configuration files. For detailed instructions, check out this special post.

Reinstalling Messenger Plus and choosing not to install the sponsor program isn’t going to remove the adware from the last time that you installed it. Read the directions on the link shifter posted.

MemberI had it but dont use it anymore. I think you’re better off without it but try doing a custom installation if it will let you.

What are you talking about? Yes it will. That’s the point of uninstalling Plus (to remove the adware).

ParticipantHe never said anything about uninstalling it, detn8r.

MemberOk, let me completely rephrase. I think the computer literate people here, which I would imagine is most of us, would realise that an uninstall is required. Of course, to correct myself and somewhat state the obvious:
1) Uninstall Messenger Plus
2) Scan your system with a program such as Spybot Search And Destroy or Ad-Aware and remove problems found.
3) Install Messenger Plus without the sponsor programJune 10, 2004 at 1:05 am #78225detn8r
ParticipantTrying to remove the adware with adaware or spybot may damage the correct way of removing it. Simply go to add/remove and remove Plus that way. IT WILL remove the adware, and you will not need to use a cleaner.
I just find it completely irritating, those who come here, and tell people not to install it (thinking by the way they’re hero’s for speaking up) when THEY are the idiots who don’t even know how to install an application properly.
And AS, so he didn’t. I’m just so caught up in how people are continuing to post these threads – I stand corrected 😉

MemberLol, detn8r, not meaning to have a go, but I said uninstall Messenger Plus first, then scan the system. So if you uninstall Plus first, how can the removal of spyware/adware affect the uninstall if it is already uninstalled?
I just said to scan your system to make sure. Still, no worries eh.
I have to say I agree with you about people coming in here telling others not to install an application. If people are going to say things like that, then they should at least back it up with some sort of reasonable evidence.

1. Please do not double post. Your first post was sufficient, if you feel you’ve forgotten something, use the edit button (
) above your post.2. Although this topic is about MsgPlus!, it is only regarding the adware so your question does not belong here, and would be better suited in it’s own topic.
3. Your answer can be found through a simple Search of our Forums. Here are your answers
