A friend from my church and her twin will be having a brithday on the first week of April. My mom has been doing crafts with them after church, she treat them like they were her own kids, since their parents aren’t around due to work. The kids are not poor, but don’t have a lot of for clothes and stuff kids like. Last Christmas they got a lot stuff from people in my church and Toy for Tot. Like clothes, CD players and toys.
But for some reason they didn’t have a lot of music for their CD player, so for their brithday I would like give them some CDs for their CD player. I just went to Wal-Mart.com to look for some music to give them, but it been hard. The twins are turning 12, their still kids but soon to be adults. And I want suggestion from you guys on what kind artist I should buy for these 12 year old twins. And a little hint one of the twins is a girl.

This is just a suggestion but my 12 year old is not allowed to listen to anything but radio disney. They have artists like Avril Lavine, Kelly Clarkson, Usher, Lindsey Lohan and Raven.
There are several issues you need to consider. What kind of music do they like? Rap, Pop, Country? Are you trying to avoid songs with suggestive lyrics or curse words?
If you are looking for something that doesn’t have ” suggestive ” lyrics but are up-to-date songs You might try something like Disney Mania 3 or such. My daughter was upset until she found out the artists and the songs they play on disney radio . She realized it is the music she likes to listen to .
Good luck!

They’ve got a ska sound, and their music is really catchy while not being preachy. might want to check them out.
carrie’s suggestion was also good… those artists are generally pretty good and mostly clean (keyword is mostly, not entirely).
March 30, 2005 at 4:59 pm #114962chikenkickerMemberif they like rock theres a few christian rock bands out there that i like, p.o.d. blindside, project 86, thousand foot krutch kutless those are all that i know of but i know theres more
March 30, 2005 at 9:42 pm #114953gossipingraeMemberWill Smith makes some rap CDs, and there are no swear words or suggestive lyrics in it. He just made a new album, I’m not sure if it’s out yet.
Hilary Duff seems okay too, and earlier things from Britney Spears (more along the lines of her first and second albums).
Tell us what you decide to get. Or you could burn a bunch of songs onto CDs.
March 30, 2005 at 10:42 pm #114943Jeff HesterKeymasterThe only thing that comes to my mind is Kids Bopz lol. But for that you might as well get the real version of the songs that are in those cds.
March 30, 2005 at 10:51 pm #114968MrOatsMemberWhen I was younger (11 yrs.) I had a kidz bop CD and I didn’t like it very much… The kids sing the songs, not the real artists… However, I loved Radio Disney. It has a lot of up beat music and think it would be a great gift! 😀

Just buy the real songs from the real artists, that way they aren’t sung by whining little kids. Ugh.

Disney Mania 3 has some choice songs from the artists that I named in my earlier comment that are sung by the original artists and are very age appropriate.
I would also suggest artists like Los Lonely boys( How far is heaven) Stephen Curtis Chapman ( live out loud ) Josh Groben ( You Raise me up) Amy Grant has many Christian songs .
I hope all of these suggestions have helped you a little.

April 1, 2005 at 1:46 pm #114964CoolMindedMemberThought about Will Smith new CD.
Here a list of CDs I thought about while surfing wal-mart.com music section:
- Jessica Simpson
- Kelly Clarkson
- Gwen Stefani
- Will Smith (no duh)
- Simple Plan ( even though their a rock band there’s a little pop in their sound)
- JLo (ok, I know you won’t like this choice)
- Good Charlotte
- JoJo
I also spotted in the kids section a CD called “Hampsterdance Hits”, I thinks it by the guys who created the Hampsterdance song. The twins are hyper, so I think this may fit them.
Any pros, cons, complaints, death threats about my list of choices.April 2, 2005 at 5:13 am #114956FirefoxManMemberCarriemeawayplz wrote:Hello Cool,This is just a suggestion but my 12 year old is not allowed to listen to anything but radio disney. Radio Disney is all! Wow… country music is awesome. You should give that a try. Or maybe go for that XM radio stuff, it’ll cost money, but hey, you’ll get a lot more of a choice for your kids. But I’m not saying you’re wrong about making your kids only listen to RadioDisney, but there are some great radio stations that don’t play that rap… I mean crap “music” and have some good songs for all ages (country!!!). Your kids are getting to the age where RadioDisney definitely won’t sit well with them… so if you want to keep them tuned into that radio station only… get ready for some serious arguments!

April 3, 2005 at 12:56 am #114965CoolMindedMemberThey like some country music, mainly the popular female artist like Shania Twain, and the Dixie Chicks etc. Right now I’m in the target.com country music section. I saw Kenny Chesney new album, I heard he was good, so maybe I’ll put him on the list of canidates. You may want to keep me in a cage, because I’m really tempted to go for Britney Spears at this moment. Boy, trying find music for a 12 year old is hard. I want to narrow down my list to 3 CDs so I won’t blow my money on a whole lot. So, vote on your top 3 picks.
April 3, 2005 at 4:59 am #114958FirefoxManMemberI’d just go buy one of the NOW cd’s, it’s got some of the latest and popular pop/rock/alternative tunes on it (and if there are any songs with explicit language, it’s edited out!) and there are similar country cd’s as well. So w/ the NOW cd, you’ll get brittany spears and the rest of her “popular” cohorts, all on one cd! And as far as country goes, I’d buy the Gretchen Wilson cd, her cd is awesome!
