Eagle_Kiwi
MemberHi all,
I’m in big trouble.
To help answer someone’s query, I deliberately logged out of Yahoo then said I’d “forgotten password“.
It then asked me for D.O.B., Zip, Country, then my ID (which is “Eagle_Kiwi”).It then said:
Your New Password Sent by Email
We have created your new, auto-generated password and sent it to your alternate (non-Yahoo!) email address. Please follow the instructions in the email to change this password to something you’re more likely to remember. This message usually arrives in your email inbox within fifteen minutes. However, please be patient as Internet traffic may delay its arrival.
While you’re waiting…
Visit the Yahoo! homepage.Well, that was about 16 hours ago – I’m still waiting! :((During that time I’ve repeated the above process 4 or 5 times, with same lack of success.
I’ve also deliberately done it with a WRONG zip code, just to confirm it won’t accept that (which it didn’t).I’ve also tried “forgot your ID?”, just to confirm my “alternate” (I think that’s also known as “Primary”) email address is still valid – indeed I DID get my ID emailed to me within about 10 minutes, TO my alternate address.
I also get email daily from Yahoo 360 and from Yahoo Answers TO my yahoo “primary” address – which is NOT an @yahoo one – so it works just fine.My original password of course no longer works, as “they” have obviously changed it – but why don’t they THEN advise me of this, as they promised ?
Does anyone else have experience – good or bad – in this particular area ?

Memberwow – I never had anything close like that happen but i do feel for you honestly. I was once hacked. I mean my account was hacked and all my emails I kept were deleted. Back then I thought whats the point. I did find my way back in and learned to make hacking my account not so easy. plus I keep all my emails I want on disk. anyway I do hope you get it all straighten out.

ParticipantI’m confused here. When you do the whole forgot password doesn’t it give you the new temporary password then and there? When i’ve done the forgotten password and entered the correct information a new screen pops up saying new password then it allows me to change it by entering the new given password then to enter the new password i want. I’ve never heard about them having to e-mail you the new password unless that is a recent change i haven’t heard about?
Edit: You do get an e-mail later stating your password was changed, but not with the password in it.

MemberI agree, I think last time I was at a similar point, maybe a year ago, it WAS different.
But all I know is what I see there NOW. ๐
Also I was surprised they made no mention of Secret Question (which I guess they now refer to as Challenge Question) – I thought one other time they asked me that, AND I see it is still mentioned as an option in their HELP page (in link in my first post) – but – seems it isn’t. ๐I’ve now started “negotiation”!? with yahoo help, and can only hope they do something real rather than just the usual automated and usually irrelevant reponses.
My account seems to work through Yahoo Help in Australia, from where I’ve had reasonable “real” help once before.April 14, 2006 at 2:11 am #142390Nessa
ParticipantAlright i went ahead and tried it on one of my id’s and it did as i mentioned in my previous post. Nothing about e-mailing me the password:
Wonder if something different? Wrong page? Or did you try it somewhere else like messenger? If so i shall try it through messenger too.
EDIT: Okay i found it gives me the option to either answer the challenge question or for it to email me my new password to my alternate e-mail address so let me try it that way, shall post results in a bit.

MemberKiwi,
i also tried to change my password, and for me also there was no problem. The only difference i can see is in the international domain-the link for forgotten password you supplied takes one to the NZ yahoo? The one i used was simply http://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw?.src= .I entered my ID, NOT including @yahoo.whatever after the name, i had all the details required, and it gave me the option of on screen/by mail also.Maybe try a different yahoo domain and see if this gives any success?
Good luck

MemberWell, to be absolutely precise, I use this URL : https://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw – and it simply comes up with this (screenshot).
Gosh, I hope this isn’t another Yahoo idea where the same URL leads to different screens depending on … where one is located !?!?
I posted the above before I saw your idea, Eddie. But now I’ve tried https://edit.yahoo.com/config/eval_forgot_pw?.src=Eagle_Kiwi as well (not certain thaty’s what u were getting at!?) – and still gives same as my screenshot here.

ParticipantAlright sorry for the repost, but didn’t want to jam up all the information in one post. It immediately e-mailed me my new password to my alternate e-mail address except it was in junk folder:
Quote:You recently requested a new password to sign in to your Yahoo! account.Your new password is: ***********
We encourage you to sign in now and change this password to something you can
remember. Here’s what to do:Sign in here using the automatically generated password above. You will
then be prompted to change your password. Please note: To avoid sign-in problems, please make sure that cookies are
enabled
in your browser and that the date and time are set correctly on your system
clock.***************************************************************
You can always change your password by following these steps:1. Sign in to any Yahoo! service
2. Click on any “Account Info” link
3. Choose “Change Password”If you cannot find an “Account Info” link, you can sign in to My Yahoo!
(http://my.yahoo.com) and you’ll find it in the upper right corner. So i wonder why it didn’t work with you, what type of alternate e-mail address do you have, hotmail? gmail? Also have you checked your junk mail folder?
EDIT: Everyone gets that same screenshot you posted. ๐

MemberTHANKS Vanessa ๐
That’s a very good idea, that they ARE sending emails, which just aren’t reaching me.
BUT . . . the email I use there is basically on my own ISP, Pop3 – which is deliberately set to NO spam filtering.
But it does come thru a redirection service on the way, but I’ve just checked THIS area again too, and that also I believe is spamtrap free. So, I believe I GET EVERY email sent to this particular address, and I sure haven’t got any “new password” ones from Yahoo. (Though as stated earlier I DID get the “forgot ID” one which I’d tried just purely to test communication from yahoo to me). ๐
In meantime I’m using my “emergency” Yahoo account, “eagle_kiwi2004”, just so I can at least have SOME access to Messenger etc!

ParticipantWell the e-mail subject should read:
Quote:Subject : Your new requested Yahoo! password. Please reset your password now.Lately i have noticed that Yahoo! e-mails go to their own bulk folders. It’s odd Yahoo! considering their own mail bulk mail (junk mail) so i thought that might be the cause.
Do you get this screen when you try the forget password? (But with your secret question, since mine is different than yours) Because this is the screen that if you type in the answer to the challenge question you get your password in the webpage not e-mail.

MemberI did a reverse phone search to make sure this number was correct and yeah it could be expensive. I just felt useless doing nothing so maybe you can use this. good luck
the direct number for Yahoo customer service. (Not easy to find) but they will probably tell you to e-mail their security team. My account has been hacked and the hacker changed the info used to verify my account. Customer service is: (408) 349-1572 (not toll free).
If you wish to e-mail the security team you will need:
1. your Yahoo ID
2. an alternate e-mail address where they can correspond with you.mail to:
account-security@dc.yahoo-inc.comDo not send your password. They will ask you for info to continue the process. Hope this helps

Hey Eagle_Kiwi.
Well, it’s sad to hear that you did this for a poster and instead you become the person asking for help! Sorry to hear it, but I hope that my answer helps solve you problem. :crying:
As you already know, I used to work for Yahoo! customer care, and Billing, and if you’ve tried the “I forgot my password” link and you didn’t get one, then possibily the alerterate email address on file is not correct, or the email server that isssued that password decided not to be nice. ๐ก
For a simple solution, you can call into Yahoo! Account Verification and they’ll change/give you a new password after verifying your account info. The phone number is 408-349-1572 option 2, option 2. I hope that helps out and let me know the outcome!!! Have a good one.
Lonnie.

I’m not sure, but Yahoo!’s gotten used to it because it’s been publicized on the Yahoo! Answers page for awhile, mainly by me, but it’s public knowledge, kinda sorta, if you search hard for it. It’s not like I’m posting their entire phone list… that would just be wrong! lol… Customer service’s number should never be hidden anyways.
On thing that I always didn’t like, but I do understand the reasonings, is they only post the Yahoo! Corp phone number on their site, an automated system that will direct you to that phone number anyways. The reason they don’t advertise the actual number is because too many free users call in for things thy don’t support, like the Yahoo! Messenger. No free services are supported via the phone. It’s understandable though… to keep things free, you can’t support every single issue out there. That would mean more man hours answering the phone and costs go up… then they charge for services… not good.
Hope they can help, and yeah, sorry, I forgot to give you the hours of operation… Glad you found out though… good luck tommorow. ๐
Lonnie.
