My webcam won’t work in MSN Messenger

My webcam wont work on MSN 6.1 says its not plugged in but it is , it works on Yahoo ok. Plus when I try to us on MSN I exit Yahoo too, but still doesn’t work on MSN. Please help.

When you said “not plugged in” do you mean the error message: “A webcam has not been detected. Please verify that your camera is plugged in, or click here to buy one.”? Have you ever been able to use your web cam on MSN Messenger? Have you went through the web cam wizard to setup your camera for MSN Messenger? Also double check that your web cam’s software application isn’t running in the background.

do you get this in webcam settings –

“You cannot change your camera settings because either your camera is not plugged in to your computer or you are using it in a video conversation or with another program.”

and this when you try webcam in a convo-

You have invited “somebody” to start viewing webcam. Please wait for a response or Cancel (Alt+Q) the pending invitation.

Your conversation cannot begin because your camera is currently in use or not plugged in. Make sure your camera is available and try again.

Technical problems prevent you from having a webcam conversation at this time. Please try again later.

You have canceled your invitation to start viewing webcam.

You have stopped viewing webcam with “somebody”

if so, then we are in the same boat. I reckon the camera isnt compatible with MSN and something needs to be downloaded. some internet whiz should be able to solve this in a sec.

It’s not it! I have the same problem, but when I tried my webcam on another computer, it worked just fine with MSN! :confused:

That sounds like Firewall problems Crogirl if you run say Zonealarm shut it donw and try it

WOW I registered JUST so I could answer this question because it drove me nuts for a long time. So hopefully it’ll be worth something. And if not maybe some other lost soul will discover a cure…

The Audio/Video tuning wizard worked perfectly, and then when I tried the webcam settings the camera couldn’t be detected. It’s very confusing the way they set it up. Apparently this problem affects some “webcams” as well if they don’t detect in some standard universal way.. At least this was the answer for me. Can’t guarantee it will work for you..

Are you just clicking the “Webcam” button? There are actually two different video functions within MSN Messenger 6.x. The first, the “Webcam” function, which is tested by the “Web Camera Settings” dialog, basically supports actual “Webcam”s only. It does not support DV/firewire cameras, digital cameras, or video card inputs. The second, the “Video Conference” function is tested by the Audio/Video Tuning Wizard, supports most devices including DV cameras and video card inputs and uses the same functionality as Windows Messenger does.
