MemberThe story so far…
I like to play tunes in Yahoo Messenger. To do so, I configure my Soundblaster properties to record selecting Record Master. I lock the talk button with T4 Mic Locker. Everything was ducky using this process until a week ago. The sound would go out to the room, but so would a 60 cycle tone. The volume level showed 0. Even when using the mic to talk. The mic configuration is fine when using Skype,Windoze Sound Recorder or even leaving voice mails via Yahoo Mesenger IM. I uninstalled and reinstalled Instant Messenger. No change. Earlier tonite I was able to talk with visual level of 1 for about a minute then the tone returned. Then later I was able to play 5 or 6 tunes. The highest level was 8,the lowest three. In the day the number was between 15 to 20. Other people said it sounded fine no matter what the number when the tone was not there. But when I heard it it,so did everyone else.

Hi My.
And my welcome to BBB too.I know nothing about “60 cycle tone” – but I guess/suspect/wonder if that is actually a good FEATURE of YM, not a bug !!
When you TALK in a voice chat, IF there is noone connected (with sound) who is hearing you, you hear a distinctive whine.
This is very deliberate – in case you are not watching the screen, but simply sitting back talking – it gives immediate AUDIO feedback to basically say “you’re wasting your breath”!To “get rid” of that whine, simply get someone in, and connected with audio.
If you STILL get the whine, yet you confirm that another person in the chat IS hearing you, THEN you have a different problem.April 19, 2006 at 11:09 am #142672mykeywld

MemberEverything seems to be ducky. I guess being able to play tunes solo in a room was a halucinaton.

MemberGlad to hear that, Myke.
Thanks for reporting back, to put this particular thread to rest now. 🙂But hey, re the hallucinating, don’t bother seeing your doctor – sounds just like the sorta trick PCs play on all of us – just to remind us who’s BOSS 😉 !
