a friend sent me the compressed folder which has in it “naughty smilies” Can you tell me where to find the site to send to my friends?
March 28, 2002 at 4:17 am #68808Jeff HesterKeymasterThe best source I know of for smilies is MySmilies.com. They have a really large selection of smilies, including a category called “obscene.” Maybe that’s what you’re looking for?

Be sure to download the “regular” smilies so you can reverse the effect!

How do I ‘install’ these smilies into Yahoo! Messenger!?
I downloaded them into the described folder; supposedly a ‘smileys’ subdirectory, but that did not previously
exist… I created it and put the files (called 4.gif and 8.gif) into the directory, but Messenger doesn’t seem to care..
I can’t get them to come up…What am I not getting?

May 25, 2002 at 2:26 am #68806Jeff HesterKeymasterNo, that’s not a stupid question. It would be nice if it worked that way, but unfortunately, no one else will see the alternative smileys unless they’ve also installed them.

I am lost on how to uses these smilies. I follwed the directions listed but got lost on the, ‘then drag the new smileys folder to the following location: C:Program Files Yahoo! Messenger Media’
HELP!!
July 25, 2002 at 5:51 am #68805Jeff HesterKeymasterAdreanne, do you know how to drag-and-drop a folder in Windows Explorer? You need to open Windows Explorer and locate the files you unzipped. Find the new “smileys” folder, then click-and-hold the folder, dragging it to the C:Program Files Yahoo! Messenger Media folder.
If you’re not sure how to do that, you can check the Windows help file. It’s a pretty basic skill that’s well worth learning.
Keep in mind that the standard smileys will be replaced by these naughty ones, but only on your computer. Your friend will still see the “standard” smileys unless he or she also installs these.
To use them, you can use the pop-up smiley selection window or the normal keyboard shortcuts like 🙂
That’s about it!

July 25, 2002 at 11:26 am #68815adreanne2001ParticipantI understand how to drag but I am lost on the C:Program Files Yahoo! Messenger Media folder. thing. I have the smilies in an zippped folder just don’t know where to look for the C:Program Files Yahoo! Messenger Media folder.
July 25, 2002 at 3:09 pm #68804Jeff HesterKeymasterThe easiest way to do this is by using Windows Explorer and in the “tree-view” (the left-hand pane with the folders), expand the Program Files folder, then then Yahoo! folder, and so on until you can see the Media folder. The select the “smileys” folder you unzipped and drag it to the Media folder.
It will detect that there is already a smileys folder, and ask you if you want to overwrite it. Say yes, and the smileys will be moved to the correct location. Restart Yahoo and you should be good to go.
If these instructions are not clear, maybe tell us what your operating system is and we’ll try to really spell it out for ya.
