MemberMartin, thanks for the link, I had looked at the referenced posting before my original post. While the links are helpful in locating AIM add-ons, I’m really looking for advice from people who have used these programs as to what I can trust not to have ad-ware, spy-ware, viruses etc. 😉
Thanks,

MemberI am the co-author of AIM Ad Hack and it is the only program that blocks installation of the spyware/adware bundled along with AIM. It also removes any traces of spyware/adware left behind from previous installations of AIM.
Through the AIM Ad Hack install you can fully configure your installation of AIM and it will happen in one seamless process. You don’t have to worry about running ad-aware or spybot after installation of AIM, no unwanted software ends up on your system to begin with.
Enough with plugging my own program 🙂 , you can grab it from here: http://aimadhack.webhop.net

MemberAll of the programs on the “Latest and most useful AIM programs” thread have been selected by the members, for the members. There should not be any adware, spyware, or viruses on any of those programs. Good luck 🙂

Memberthanks to everyone who took the time to reply. I checked out the palfun site – I’m a little suspicious because it’s free and the site is pretty slick – how do they make money? Plus, there is a posting on the bigblueball forum that says it’s full of spyware…not sure what to believe.
I have an old smiley set from “ATP” – does that have malicious code?
thanks again!

~CarolHey Carol, I am 100% positive that middle_man has no spyware. Same with deadaim and palfun. I have been using middle_man for a long time and I have talked to the authors of the program who have assured everyone that there is no spyware. DeadAIM, since he makes you pay now, I am almost positive he wouldnt put spyware in that… Not sure about any others…
Good luck in your search!

MemberThis is what you should do (to get the most out of AIM):
Install 5.2.3292
Install DeadAIM
Install Middle_Man
Install Smilez 3.0 beta 7In THAT Order
I have it setup that way, and it works without any bugs what-so-ever.
