MemberOkay, here’s my deal… I have a new computer and I tried getting AIM on it. I am using Windows XP. First I attempted going to aim.com to download it, but the two options I have are downloading an upgrade, which would suggest I already had AIM, or downloading it as a new user. I am not a new user, however. I have a screen name and several buddies and whatnot, just not on this new computer. So, I tried to burn the program on CD, then upload it on this computer via the CD. It worked fine the first few days, but now I am getting this error message every single time I try to sign on. It begins to log me on with no problems, but once I’m logged on, an error message pops up saying that AIM has to close. And it says, “For more information about this error, click here,” and so I click to see what it is and it gives me this list of file names:
AppName: aim.exe
AppVer: 5.93861.0
ModName: rtcdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.1351
Offest: 0000a45fNow this is what I already tried: tried running Spybot, Spysweeper, and Norton to see if there was anything bad on my comp that was causing this to happen. I also uninstalled it SEVERAL times and re-installed it to see what would happen, tried rebooting SEVERAL times, and nothing. Someone suggested downloading the latest version of DirectX, which is 9.0c, and it did nothing either when I installed it. Now, the version of AIM on my other computer has DeadAIM. I am thinking that when I copied the AIM folder from my other computer with all the files in it, it also had the DeadAIM files, and perhaps, for some reason, these files are giving me problems with this new computer, however, I do not have DeadAIM installed on this computer.
I hope someone understands what I’m saying and has some suggestions to help. I do appreciate it. Thank you.

MemberSorry, I forgot to mention that I also tried downloading the update for AIM after installing it, but it did nothing to help my problem.

ParticipantTry an older version of AIM? (one from http://www.oldversion.com perhaps)

MemberI tried downloading an older, but more recent version of AIM as you suggested, but I still get this error message. It lists all the same files that have been giving me problems, but with one difference. Instead of “AppVer: 5.9.3861.0” I am getting “AppVer: 0.0.0.0” I am wondering if this has anything to do with it.

MemberI had already done that. But apparently something has happened that caused the error message to go away. I don’t quite exactly know what it is, but I just remember Norton prompting me to install Symantec, and after I did that the problem seemed to have gone away. I don’t know what it could have fixed or how it did it, but it did. So, thank you all for your help, but this case has been closed.
