Hello all…I am new here and hoping someone can help me. I have been having problems with my AIM for the past 2 days. I am running Windows XP and my AIM version is 5.9.3861. I can sign on but when I go to IM someone…the window freezes and you can see thru it…but then I move the window and it fills in…now when I go to type something and hit send…I see nothing happening but they do receive it…I receive nothing in return until I click the “X” I will get all the responses then. I have uninstalled this 5x’s now and cleaned my system 5x’s as well thinking maybe a virus…but I’m clean and it’s still happening. I don’t care too much for the Triton version this is why I want the 5.9.3861 version. Can anyone please help me?:o
April 17, 2006 at 2:15 am #142620BShink21MemberHave you tried anything from 5.5 down? 5.2 would probably the most stable. You can get 5.2 from http://www.oldversion.com
April 18, 2006 at 1:18 am #142628jaasteeleMemberDoeZ described the problem I’ve been having these past two days with AIM also. I have the same version. I’ve unistalled and re-installed it twice with the same results. I had this happen once before (maybe a year or more ago) and the re-install seemed to work. I don’t like the Triton version either and will try an older version if that’s necessary but was hoping to stay with my current version.
April 18, 2006 at 2:42 am #142621BShink21MemberDid you try to unistall then go to Start > Search > AIM. Wait for everything to show up, then delete all the files. Now redownload a new copy of any version you want and reinstall. Let us know if it works.
April 18, 2006 at 10:20 pm #142623DoeZMemberGlad to see that I’m not the only one with this problem. I did uninstall and reinstall this version 5x’s and I did go to start and search and anything that said aim I deleted…then i completely cleaned my system and restarted it and checked again to make sure I didn’t have any part of aim on my comp…when I went in to reinstall this version it did it all over again. I don’t have time to keep uninstalling and reinstalling this…and I don’t care for the triton version but I don’t want any older version than the 5.9.3861 Anbody have any other suggestions? Thanks:cool:
April 19, 2006 at 12:20 am #142624DoeZMemberOk here’s an update…I just went and tried to reinstall the 5.9.3861 version AGAIN…and it’s still messed up. Need serious help please:woot:
April 20, 2006 at 2:43 pm #142629MasterRichMemberhi, i wish i can add something to this topic, but the thing is i am going through the same exact thing and it is pissing me off, i tried Anti-virus software, virus checks, Spyware checks and Malware Checks and it found nothing. I have no idea what is wrong with my computer, but to see an Instant message i have to close my IMs and no one will talk to me online cause it messes up their computer to, it kinda sucks, more of an annoyance then anything else……i have tried everything and looked all online for something but i cannot find any answers, and also it is my older version of AIM, AIM Triton and AOL which are doing this not just AIM Triton……any help will be great, thanx…
April 20, 2006 at 10:03 pm #142625DoeZMemberOnce again I’m glad to see that it isn’t only me that this is happening to. Although I am sorry that you’re going thru the same thing. I too am very pissed off cuz I also can’t IM anyone cuz they say it messes up their computer as well. And I also have gone thru everything you did and found nothing as well. Do you think we should report this to AIM or someone from AOL? There has to be something wrong on their part if it’s happening to several other people. Anybody have any other suggestions? 😮
April 21, 2006 at 1:28 am #142630MasterRichMemberwell i e-mailed AOL support they told me to do 2 things which i have done and didn’t work. I then went to Chat support and they told me to do the same thing, i told them i have done it already and they said to delete all my AOL and AIM programs and reinstall them, which i have just done and it still doesn’t work, AOL, AIM, AIM EXpress, they all do the same thing, it has to be some type of spyware or something, but it is not catching it in my virus and spyware checks…..i am stompped, i wish i knew what was going on….well if i figure out whats wrong i will be sure to post it here as soon as i can…
April 22, 2006 at 3:29 pm #142622PrProgramsStudiosMemberI am sure that you all have all tried this, but just in case: AIMFix
April 22, 2006 at 10:37 pm #142626DoeZMemberWell I didn’t try that AIMfix so I just did. I first uninstalled the triton version and went to make sure it was removed from my control panel…it was…then I double checked and did a search and removed all of aim and restarted…then I reinstalled the 5.9.3861 version and did the aimfix…it didn’t work at all. When I went onto aim it still did what it was doing before. So now I have to uninstall it and reinstall the triton version that I don’t like. Do you think I should turn off all my other things…like my spyware stuff…adaware and anti virus and try to reinstall it? Its just a thought…or am I never gonna be able to use this version again and am stuck with the triton version. Please…anybody else have this problem and how did you fix it or what did you do? Really appreciate any help anyone can offer here.:o
April 22, 2006 at 11:13 pm #142627DoeZMemberOk here’s an update…Only because this is bugging the hell out of me…I went into the AIM Download…its above this forum…scrolled down to where it says AIM Ad Hack for AIM 5.9.3861(or something like that…i’m pretty close) and it seems to be working fine now. I think I’d know for sure if I had someone to IM…everyone seems to be out or something…lol But anyways…it seemed to fix the problem. Apparently there must be something that got added like hacked or something like that and this download cleaned it all and hopefully it works now. If you try this let me know how you made out. IM me at DoeZ0763 Thanks everyone…if I’m wrong here I’ll be back:woot:
