Well i have a 4 Port Linksys Router, And i like to play online games like “Swat3” well i cant host on the game because it lags and fails P2p. I need to know if thereis a way to remove my Firewall or whatever so i can host in Games. PLz if u know anything about the 4 Port Linksys Router.. Let me know.. I really would Help it if u Can Help me out in my promlem.. Thnx..

Also some of u might say “why dont u just run ur Cable to the back of ur modem and not have it on router” Well i have my 2nd pc on my router for my g/f so she can use the internet aswell.. so that question is out of it.
Last thing, I dont have a Firewall on my Desktop, So thats not the problem either. and im runing Windows 98 btw.

You don’t need the router firewall removed, you just need to forward the incoming server request data to your computer. That’s, in essence, what a router does.
Do me a favor: Go to the command prompt (Start > Run > Type “cmd /k”), and type in “ipconfig /all”. Find where it says “Default Gateway:” and read me the IP address that’s next to it. Linksys usually has it something like 192.168.1.1.
Okay, so go to your browser and type “http://192.168.1.1/”, login (usually Username is blank and pass is “admin”, and find something about “UPnP Forwarding”, then simply type in whatever game you play, the external port, the internal port (these are usually the same), and whether it’s TCP or UDP (Generally it’s TCP, but if it doesn’t work, try UDP). Then save, and it should be forwarded to your computer.
Here i took a screen shot of my forwarding in my router settings. u can see how a guy had me do it with 2 lines. How he had me do it, Really isnt help much in my game in swat3. When im in the game with friends on my host, As we load getting ready to go to the game.. It fails p2p.. and then when the game starts as we play.. they say it lags.. so how can i help this matter?
First off, whatever the game uses as the server port, that’s what you should use for both lines one and two for both internal and external. This ensures maximum operability.
Second, I can’t help you with the lag; That’s got a lot to do with what ISP you have and how much upload speed they give you. The lower the number, the laggier the server’s giong to be.
ok so.. theres really nothing i can do? that guy found the game servers i think thats wut he had me put in.. im not really sure.. well this sucks i’ll never have da chance to host if im on a router then i guess.. ty anyways
I would get the manual and read it. This should be for your router http://www.networkeverywhere.com/support/routersupport.asp. Here is a list of ports to open for programs http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/app_port_list.htm another good site http://portforward.com/ and here is their list http://portforward.com/cports.htm. You could always enabe dmz not recommend though. A router is the best firewall you can have. There is allot of people that host games that has a router. Just need to setup portforwarding correctly and try. For a test after you setup portforwarding correctly try it then if it still lags try it without the router and see what happens. If it lags without the router then you are sol.
