And Profile logging is possible. Just have the program save the profile as it’s viewed, and then when the person is offline, the profile window loads the most recent one. Middle Man does it.
The issue you have with that is you may not have the most up to date version saved locally.

As for Otsego, please god drop it before it turns into another 30 thread argument.March 13, 2004 at 12:07 am #83241David

ParticipantI have a totally different idea. A SOCKS4 Proxy that has features for all AIM clients that connect using OSCAR or TOC. Then you add the ability for folks to add custom plugins if they want for the client of their choice. All of this on an open source project to which users can submit new plugins and make it better… after all you are not charging for this program correct? Do not be so limited as to just the narrow span of AIM… It has enough add-ons for it already.
SOCKS4 Proxy ideas[/b]
1. Emulated 128 bit standard AIM encryption certificates for unofficial AIM clients (Multiple platforms can now talk to AIM setups with 128 bit encryption certificates without having to revert to AIM)
2. Its own encryption method for 2 users behind the proxy itself with the ability to choose key size.
3. The ability to filter out HTML tags in both IMs and chatrooms before the messages are back to my client.
4. The ability to change the “user-agent:” header when connecting to the AIM server.
5. Packet loggingAIM Plugin Module – The list so far…[/b]
Appear invisible (shows you as offline while you are on AIM)
Fake Idle
Mobile Login
Security Lock
Custom Login Picture
Cloning
Hide AIM by a shortcut key
Logging Conversations (Both in plain text and html logging)
Tabbed Windows (by IMs and chatrooms + the ability to seperate the 2 or combine them all together)
Set Custom Colors (Font/Background/Chat window/Buddy list window)
Set Smiley Theme
Hide Ads
Hide General Buttons
Hide Buddy List Buttons
Hide Menu Bar
Hide Buddy List Bar
Change window style to tool window
Talk While Away
Hide Away Message from Profile
Hide Away message divider
Center Away Message/center profile
Custom Away Messages for certain people
Set a Message to be Sent to someone when they sign on
Special Characters for Profile
%ws = winamp song
%wl = song length
%wp = winamp status(playing, paused, stopped, or off)
%rq = randomquote (updates every song change, or every min)
%m = current memory status
/clone (clone aim)
/offline (appear offline)
/online (appear online)
/esecur (enable security lock)
/dsecur (disable security lock)
/idle (set idle)
/options (opens option page)
/removeme (remove your sn from someones buddylist)
/smess (opens special message page)
Winamp Commands
/play
/stop
/pause
/vol 100 (set volume)
/wclose (close winamp)
/next (next song)
/prev (prev. song)Remote Controls (like Middle Man)
Choice of logging method (either by day or by session)
Removing the “Warning” from the profile menu in 5.5.3572
Changing the font of buttons
Offline ProfilesMy own AIM suggestions:
– Ability to ignore *OnlineHost*
– Ability to ignore real HOST names
– Ability to ignore the IM from AOL System message and other official bots
– Max size IM windows open… User sets a max number of graphical IM windows that will be open at any one time. Lets use 10 as an example… Any IMs open past 10 will simply have the message, screen name, and a time stamp recorded to a text file without opening it up. This ensures IM bombs do not boot you off AIM with endless IM windows. Also you can set this limit for other dialog boxes as well if you wish to leave them on but NOT be booted off AIM. The .txt record ensures you did not miss any legit messages.
An indicator noting of your recorded .txt messages to be sure you did not miss anything.
– First priority should be AIM 5.2.3292 since 5.5 is just so very buggy and full of spyware.gaim plugin module[/b]
– Ability to filter out incoming “invite to chat” and other dialog box type packetsLogger Plugin Module[/b]
– HTML or Plain text logger of AIM chats by session or by day.
– The ability to take out ALL messages from screen names of my choice, say like a chatroom session, in the log so there is less bloating of logs. Ever ignored users in yahoo chat and all the previous messages from them just go away? Just like that!March 14, 2004 at 7:59 pm #83263JeSs24
MemberI like all the ideas that are on here But I think there needs to be other changes.. I think that you should be able to have more then one color for your text writing.. There should also be no profile limit because if people want to have more on their profile they should be aloud to instead of having a subprofile. There also shouldnt be a warning level because people should have the right to be able to stay online as long as possible and shouldnt have people naggin at them. When you are sending a picture or song you should be able to talk to the person instead of having to open a new window and put a exclamation mark after the screen name. I also think that you should be able to see the people that have you on block or you have them on block to see if their online or not.I also think that there shouldnt be a limit of how many buddies you have on your list you should be aloud to have as many buddies as you want. You should be able to have a nickname for the person like on yahoo instead of people seeing the s/n you could have a nickname.I also think that you shouldnt have a test limit when your typing to someone and you shouldnt have the little green bars at the bottom of the window so you can type as fast and as long as you want.Because what if you were talking to more then one person and you were typing fast?? You should have the right to write as much as possible and as fast as possible instead of direct connecting to the person to do this. Like people on AOL your not able to direct connect to them.

MemberWell, the proxy idea is how ProfileAMP works, and how the Otsego people are most likely doing it. Though there are many more features which could be added through this…
team-fx.com/soft — download v8 for yourself. it’s suprisingly well made, and the taskbar icon isn’t horrendous looking (like most ameatur progs). I’m using it right now. 🙂

MemberOkay…. Check this… All of these AIM “add-on’s” are getting overrated – Why dont someone just make their very own fully customizable AIM Client, with the ability to do just about anything. I personally think that would be better, but then again, you all just might think differently.

MemberFryman- when is the projected date for you to have a beta version of your plugin out?? With all the suggestions here, it would be a great plugin/add in to have. especially if you could log all IMs, ect and show music listening to. Keep us updated please

Nobody knows enough about the AOL OSCAR protocol to do this.
JeSs24: almost everything you ask for cannot be done because of the AOL servers, not because of the AIM client itself.

I am sure you are right… But in order to make something big and have it perfected – it does require alot of thought, and alot of research – and I am pretty sure somewhere on the internet, they’re plenty of documenation on the OSCAR Protocol. I mean I have seen it done before, but it sucked because it was programmed in Visual Basic 6.0

ParticipantThe OSCAR proticol is a closed source unreleased by AOL. Most everything knowns about it has been from reverse programming or leaks. That is needless to say we simply don’t know enough to encorperate those features which you speak of.

MemberSome good tech docs about OSCAR. It is enougth to create own client:

ParticipantAnother suggestion
I don’t know if this could be done, but if one could have the ability to move various buttons on the buddy list, away message, and IM window around, to spots that are more convenient, or get rid of them completely. Such as the games button, or moving the send button.
