KeymasterIts available here:
http://www.aim.com/get_aim/win/win_beta.adp?aolp=
but its BETA version. So it may not be good to download for users who don’t know what BETA is. Final release should be available soon, so you may want to wait till you are automatically notified by the AIM to upgrade it. (beta version may have some bugs, may be harder to use, you may be asked frequently to upgrade as betas are released more frequently

MemberVideo? hmm sounds kinda cool although its starting to be more like MSN Messenger dont u think?

Participantyeah right. msn messenger is stable, reliable, mostly well-made. as much as i hate microsuck, i gotta admit that MSN Messenger is a great chunk of programming. although i dont really use it that much, just cause the majority of my friends use AIM, i’d use it more if more people used it i guess

Memberi am having a problem with the video portion. when i try to connect to an online buddy, it will not let me click on “start live video”. this option only appears to be available when the buddy is offline…which of course is useless.

Participantwell… its a beta version… meaning bugs like these are bound to still exist. hey even in their FINAL releases, the geniuses over at AIM have some problems…

MemberWell in my opinion if AIM doesnt start making some major changes tigerblade, our friends are going to start switching to MSN messenger. The problem is that people like AIM because its simple and user friendly. But with that comes hackers and malicious programmers. Exploits and errors around every corner. And the AIM layout is getting bad also. As you can see AOL is cramming everything they can into the I-face and they are running out of room. Look how they did their new AIM linking? The gray button throws off all color of the rest of the messenger and is very annoying. They keep increasing the sides of the ads, and you have a stuped stock watch thing scrolling at the bottom. All this and your actual list of buddys gets harder to see and you have to start using the scroll bar to see everyone. As for me i forgot that my whole buddy list doesn’t show on the screen and end up not knowing that friends are even online. I would much like to format my buddylist to fit my own size specifications and change the look so i dont have all of those menus and buttons. But no, where would their huge 118×86 ad that keeps getting larger go? So we are forced to resort to other programmers to improve AIm. Its very tireding having to wait for the Deadaim makers to release a new Deadaim for every new AIM that comes out. Then they try to add the features of other messengers and only make everything look worse. In my opinion the software needs to be ripped down and redone from scratch.

Participanthear hear, i second that. yeah the four year olds over at aim need to start over. as for “I would much like to format my buddylist to fit my own size specifications and change the look so i dont have all of those menus and buttons. But no, where would their huge 118×86 ad that keeps getting larger go?” – that’s where customizing comes in. i’m fairly new to modifying AIM, but i’ve stripped it down to the bare essentials of what i need/want. no more ads, no more stock ticker, no more AIM Today, i’ve customized the menus (stripped out all the stuff i never used in the first place and rearranged it to make it USEFUL… what a concept). you can try trimming it down yourself… my suggestion is take a look at the WinMod forums section on AIM… worked for me
oh… and as for 5.5… i dont plan to “upgrade” unless they get rid of the WildTangent spyware

MemberIt’s good to hear that I”m not the only one the thinks the new 5.5 betas stink. 😡
AOL really needs to start listening to the user community and not some marketing guy in a suit and tie.

Participantwell tracer, here’s your chance to try to tell AIM what you think… try this petition to get AOL to remove the spyware from its latest version… if you didnt know about this, installing the new AIM forces an install of WildTangent gaming software, which is actually spyware… reports information about you and your usage back to whoever’s holding the ropes. who knows if this petition will work, but hey its worth a shot… as of right now the number of signatures is pretty low, i think we’re gonna need a lot more force behind this thing if its gonna work

KeymasterIf it is used for good purpose then I don’t mind having spyware. If the spyware sends anonymous information and the information required to improve their software then its just fine. Google also have such thing in their toolbar. And well you are all talking about ripping and modifying AIM, if you are that smart then why don’t you just go to add/remove programs and remove wild-tangent s/w if you don’t like it.
Just that they need to improve their games a little bit from the view point of resources. Or in other words they should make ’em faster to load and perform. And with experience they will ofcourse find exciting new games.

there are other ways of getting feedback from users. they shouldnt have to resort to installing spyware to get information… all they need to do is ask, give us a way to tell them whats good, whats bad, etc etc. a program that autoinstalls, autoupdates, secretly reports who knows what back to its creators… that isnt necessary.
Quote:quote:if you are that smart then why don’t you just go to add/remove programs and remove wild-tangent s/w if you don’t like it.if for some reason i do decide to download 5.5, then thats exactly what i’ll do. that’ll be the first thing i do… remove it through add/remove, then run spybot a few times, then do a registry search… i want it GONE. but the point is that we shouldnt have to do any of that, it shouldnt be necessary at all. i’m not trying to turn this into an argument, but really AIM is stooping pretty low this time. they keep “improving” AIM, but all they’re doing is shoving ads in our faces, trying to fit as much stuff as possible into their software without actually fixing the problems they have with the current versions

I know that i can edit everything a res editor but i dont want to have to do that. I want it to be build into aim so i have everything i need in the software when i first download it.
Wouldnt you love to be able to do this when you first download aim? No new crap or anything?
