Anyone seen the new AIM virus (or maybe old, depends how in-date I am)
I got home tonight after being away/idle for about 15 hours, and I had 6 messages from different people that I never talk to, all saying: “Hey check out this” followed by a link to, who’s URL looks unfamilar, and is always changing.
I even got the message about 4 times in a half hour’s time.
Does anyone have the info on this? Can you get the virus by clicking on that link – or is there other ways?
For anyone who has the virus, I have an AIM cleaner: AIM Fix 1.0 (search that on google and download it – it’ll clean your AIM hopefully)
i think it is a virus of some kind. i just got the same message from a buddy that wasnt even on my list before. i know the guy, but i didnt even know he had aim. so we were both right to not click the link! 🙂
Can you still get it if you have firefox?
yes, the virus has nothing to do with your web browser. In fact, its not a vulnerability in the AIM software, the vulnerability is that people are stupid enough to download executables and run them off of sites. AIM just happens to be the transporting agent in this case.
well i dont know. i use firefox 1.0.3, ad-watch (included with ad-aware pro), the windows firewall, SP2.
i clicked the link, but nothing happened afterwards. i dunno if it relates to computer or browser. btw get the fix here.
