MemberI was grounded for a week and got let off today. I plan on sending them in about an hour or so. In the set I’m sending, I have replaced some of the crappy ones in the list of avatars shown above with new, better ones. Sorry for the delay.
Edit: Ok I finally emailed them to jeff.

These are some more avatars I plan on Emailing to jeff tomorrow, They are ok…I tried to get more objects (cars, smileys, logos, symbols, games, etc) than before, where I did mostly light (sparks, flashes of light, lightning, explosions, lasers, markings, lines, etc)Surely many of those are copyright and so cannont without permission be used?

MemberThose come from DeviantArt wallpapers, and I have gathered permission from the authors to use the wallpapers to make an avatar.

KeymasterThere’s a guy I work with that we call “Buzzkill” because he’s always raining on every parade. We’re teasing him of course, mainly because he does it through a wry sense of humor. I think maybe we found another Buzzkill. 😉
The logos can be used under the “fair use” rules of copyright law. They aren’t being used to imply endorsement or sponsorship, nor to mislead anyone into thinking BigBlueBall is part of the New York Yankess organization (for example).
The artwork could be a copyright issue, but if they are derivative works (modified from the original) that problem also goes away. Of course, if and artist ever said “hey, that’s my work — take it down
I just added someguy’s avatars — a nice looking bunch!

MemberOK I can NOT compare to someguy’s selection AT ALL…but…
Anyway, I was bored and decided to make a few (9) and submit then to Jeff, so here they are:

They’re just some patterns I made in Fireworks. There’s also the BBB one I threw in there. And, yes, the earth is taken from the website. If you want more made, let me know (color combos/designs/borders…) and I’ll make another set. Hope you like, and hope Jeff adds them.

MemberThese are almost the final ones I will be submitting (theres no vader because I had submitted an avatar of him last time I sent in some). Are there any characters I am missing?

ParticipantWhat about the Fett boys??
Here’s a question, what’s the rule on animated avatars? I know that they can be in .gif format, so…yeah… That’s kind of my forte.

Nope. It would slow down each page load time by a lot, becuase for each frame of the GIF, it would have to load that image. So say you had a 30 frame GIF, instead of loading an 8k GIF, you’re actually loading 240k worth of GIF Pictures. And it bogs down the server if everyone has these extensively long GIFs. (Yeah, I’ve seen these GIF’s that are 5 or 6 mins long) So, in short, no.
What would you have anyway, your cat’s eye blink at us? 😉

Participant*tilt* because you’re in charge of the avatars?? I was actually asking someone with some leverage in the creation of BBB, not some snide little remark from someone who seems to -think- they’re in charge. As for it being 240K I’ve made animations that have been 5-7K and less. Going through 30 frames is insanity, I’ve made animations with 3 frames, and most of mine top out at 5-7, I really don’t appreciate you going on and on about “I’ve seen this and that all animations are huge yadda yadda” when you’ve obviously never taken the time or the effort to look at my work, which is quite the contrary.

MemberFirst off, I do know what I’m talking about. AND I do NOT think I’m in charge. I just happen to read the post and know the answer. Also, it just so happens someone has asked that question before and I happen to read the answer. And I didn’t critisize your work at all, I’m just saying that if we allowed it, there’d always be that idiot who would make a 5 minute GIF Video.
*sigh* I really didn’t mean it that way, and I’m sure your work is awesome. That was just a general statement. And those are the policies. But policies can be changed. So hope for the best. 🙂
