New BBB Facebook Page

I’ve created an admin account on Facebook using a fictitious user (Joe Ball). This is so I can eventually turn the account over to someone else to maintain. I will not be using it for any personal contacts.

The only reason I did this is so that I could create an official Facebook “page” for BigBlueBall.com, following Facebook’s guidelines for companies and websites who want to establish an official presence on Facebook. This is different from the BigBlueBall group that already exists.

Having the page we can setup multiple administrators. If you’re on Facebook and you’d like to be an administrator for the page, let me know.

Meanwhile, please Fan BigBlueBall on Facebook, post a comment and invite your friends to join as well.

On a related note, I will be integrating the front section of the site (temporarily hosted at BigBlueBall) with Facebook Connect, allowing you to post comments to news or articles using your Facebook account. If you’d like to see what this will look like, you can get an idea from another site that is already doing this: Mark Martin’s Official Website! (look part way down in the right-hand sidebar and you’ll see it).

I will also be integrating Facebook Connect with the forums, so users won’t have to register — they can “join” BigBlueBall with their existing Facebook account. They will still get a profile at BBB, and it will even automatically use their Facebook avatar and profile pic!

The net result of the Facebook Connect integration is that anytime a Facebook member posts a comment, topic or reply, their activity will be reflected on their Facebook page, which in turn will notify their friends, which in turn will hopefully drive more new visits. We’ll see. 🙂
