MemberHi all,
Ok, I’m new to FB & have a few questions…
1. I hate the crowded comments ALL over the place that I can’t even follow. I don’t even know where to go first, second, etc.
Is there any way to keep it more neat & organized?
I’m assuming that’s my wall I’m looking at “Newsfeed”?
2. Why in the world are all these people from all over the world adding me as friends. If they spoke English, ok fine, but none of them do & after they messed up my newsfeed or wall or whatever, I finally had to say enough is enough & started deleting them as friends.
This is my biz acct. where I’m allowing anyone to be added & someone took over for me as a Social Media Expert (I’m back looking for someone) & I guess she let all these people be added as friends.
3. How do I write on my wall for everyone to see?
Thanks a ton for any help.

HI!
Ahhh questions, questions, everywhere. Don’t worry. I’ve been using facebook for a while and I still stare at it blankly, with my mouth hanging agape at least once a month.ep2002;245378 wrote:1. First of all, things are cluttered and ugly depending on who you’ve added and what order THEY put things up. Generally, Facebook throw things up on chronological order so as people throw new things up, they’ll just….show. now you do have the option of hiding people if you want (goodness knows I abuse that button). If you hover over the person’s update to the right, it should pop up a ‘hide’ button.
Looking at News Feed, News Feed is generally what facebook /thinks/ is important. Based on how many comments/likes are on that particular update.
If you click just above the ‘what’s on your mind’ box, on the ‘Live Feed’ link, it should change everything to the Live Feed, which is unfiltered and EVERYTHING that EVERYONE on your friends list has posted. once more, all in chronological order, starting with the newest.ep2002;245378 wrote:2. If random people are adding you, chances are they’re adding you for games, because they liked your status picture or for the same reason that random people add on myspace; spam and advertising.
My suggestion? If you don’t know them, don’t add them.
ep2002;245378 wrote:3. How do I write on my wall for everyone to see?Writing on your wall is fairly easy. To update your status, just click on the afformentioned ‘What’s on your Mind?’ box and it’ll let you update your status. It will also allow you to post pictures, videos, events, links and other things with those little links that show up by “Attach:”
I hope that helped a little bit…if not, I blame the hour. Hahahaha, as if that’s an excuse *grin*

MemberOh thank you sooo much & sorry for the delay in responding.
1. Ok, so when I hide people’s garbage on my wall (I assume that’s my wall?) does it hide it for everyone, or just me?
2. The problem with people adding me randomly, is that I can’t see their profile to see if they are English speaking. I can’t do that until they’ve been confirmed, right?
For my biz acct., this makes it very difficult.
3. How do I see someone’s DOB or age? I’m looking for a person who has a very popular name, & I don’t want to message 122 to see if any one of them is him LOL but I can’t see their ages.
4. For my biz acct. I tried to change the user name b/c I want my company name to be after the http://www.fb.com/companyname but FB made it VERY difficult to do this, & they won’t allow the word “exotic” which is really pissing me off.
5. When I went to change my name on another acct., I got those warnings about how it has to be a real name, blah blah, but I put Michelle – company name.
Will they really delete my acct.?
I think that’s it for now.
Thanks 🙂 & Happy New Year
Michelle

Participantep2002;245469 wrote:Oh thank you sooo much & sorry for the delay in responding. No worries on the delay, Michelle *grins* I once had a delay that was about a year long here, so I think I can forgive you! *chuckles* I might suggest as a helpful tip, though, when you need to add on to your post, instead of making another post, you can just use the
button and stick it right on there!ep2002;245469 wrote:1. Ok, so when I hide people’s garbage on my wall (I assume that’s my wall?) does it hide it for everyone, or just me?Just you! It wont hinder anyone else’s ability to read all about how they just ate a bowl of cheerios, but the cheerios tasted a little stale, so they poured them out and had toast instead. Or whatever.

For my biz acct., this makes it very difficult.Actually, people are able to put a safety lock on just how much or how little others can see of their profile before they’re friends. BUT the problem here is that there is no “Language” block on the ‘About Me’, so even on friends there isn’t anywhere that I see where English is a primary language. The only way you can tell is by actually talking to them.
Though, why you would want to spam up your facebook with a bunch of people you don’t know and don’t care to know is something I’m not quite understanding why you’d want to inflict upon yourself. If it’s for business, a lot of people will have the business they work for (or school they go to) under the ‘education and work’ section if they’re serious about networking. And that’s typically viewable.

I’m looking for a person who has a very popular name, & I don’t want to message 122 to see if any one of them is him LOL but I can’t see their ages.Alright, an easy way to search for a friend is if you know their email address, job or school. If you know that, you can search for them here, under ‘Search for People’. Push their email in there and hit search.
OR!
When you search for a name, sometimes it will say what networks/cities/schools they’re in.
OR!
If you had mutual friends, you can troll through the lists of your friends’ friends for their names.
OR!
If you click on their name and view their profile, flip over to the INFO tab and it’ll show things like birthdate if they’ve entered it.
OR!
Looking at a picture also helps sometimes *winks*ep2002;245469 wrote:4. For my biz acct. The only thing I can suggest trying to use another manner of spelling the name out or another phrase related to the business.
C’mon, can you about imagine how much crap we get for being ‘Big Blue Ball’ around here? *grins* Sometimes ‘Big Blue’ is the best Jeff can do, I’m sure, just because of ‘implications’.If you like I’m sure you can send a word off to Facebook and see if they have any suggestions or can make an exception

Technically, anything that violates the terms of conduct, rights and restrictions of Facebook is terms for deletion. Among them:
- Registration and Account Security Facebook users provide their real names and information, and we need your help to keep it that way. Here are some commitments you make to us relating to registering and maintaining the security of your account:
- You will not provide any false personal information on Facebook, or create an account for anyone other than yourself without permission.
- You will not use your personal profile for your own commercial gain (such as selling your status update to an advertiser).
- You will not use Facebook if you are under 13.
- You will not use Facebook if you are a convicted sex offender.
- You will keep your contact information accurate and up-to-date.
- You will not share your password, let anyone else access your account, or do anything else that might jeopardize the security of your account.
- You will not transfer your account to anyone without first getting our written permission.
- If you select a username for your account we reserve the right to remove or reclaim it if we believe appropriate (such as when a trademark owner complains about a username that does not closely relate to a user’s actual name).
This generally means you have to use some semblance of your real name. The Company should go in your education and work section.
ep2002;245469 wrote:The person who set up one of my biz accts. put a random DOB, so now I have people wishing me a Happy B-day LOLHow do I change that?
HAH! Funny. Sure! You just go to your profile, flip over to Info and if you float your mouse to the right side under basic information, an edit button should appear magically!
ep2002;245469 wrote:How do you put the “books I am reading” on your acct., & can you use affiliate code if you are an Amazon affiliate? There are many many many MANY different ‘books I am reading’ applications on facebook. You just need to install them and get to town on it!
Here’s a List of Virtual Bookshelf Applications. And I have no idea how any of these work, but if you slap ‘Amazon’ in the applications search, here’s a list of applications that in some way cater to Amazon.
I am tired and lazy and don’t want to sift through it all, but there you go if you like!To read more about each application, click on them, and hit the INFO tab, like you would a person! *beams*
Anything else? *jumps around from foot to foot, shadowboxing* Hit me!

MemberThanks again 🙂
I am not trying to edit my original post right? I’m adding & conversing re: your comments, so I have to reply, b/c the “edit” button is only for the original post in the thread.
1. Re: the biz acct., I’ll try to be more careful, but the assumption is, that if I add a lot of people interested in my industry, others will eventually get there & purchase.
2. Why is it sometimes when I try to delete someone as a friend b/c they either commented on my wall or sent me something, I see no Unfriend link?
3. I thought the only way to have the http://www.fb.com/name of company was thru the user name & I’m right, there is no other way.
4. How do you contact FB? I tried to look & there’s no way that I see re: that issue.
Thanks & Happy New Year 🙂

MemberHi Michelle, welcome to the BBB!
About your FB questions – FB can (and usually does) confuse the heck out of me, so I can’t answer all your recent questions…but I can answer one.
Contacting FB: It looks to me as if every incoming contact to FB is conducted through their Help Center…here is the link to the page, with their (FaceBook’s) instructions on how to contact them.
Also, maybe if you become a friend of Facebook you could send them a message personally? I’m not sure – just something I noticed.
Also: hats off to you, Sami, for posting your fantastic know-how of FB! +Rep for you. 🙂
