Ok, I have two suggestions/ideas.
one
How about a Forum area for new users to practice posting without affecting the post counter. They can post whatever they like, perhaps have a sticky at the top explaining general post practices such as quoting, using the UBB code, editing, and deleting posts. Then perhaps instead of learning as they go, they can get a bit of a head start.two
When registering as a new user, why not include the Forum Guidelines and Policies in the confirmation email. Or perhaps once they confirm, send out the notice saying Thanks and such, with the forum rules outlined. That may help let new users know what they are getting into at the start.July 8, 2003 at 7:06 pm #60184coolguyj2Memberwell shifter thats a gud idea but the problem is that in email we just read the line which says about confirmation and not the whole email!!! but in an all its a great idea!!!
also how about introducing a search feature which allows you to search for any particular topic already posted!!!

I suggested the (almost) same thing to Jeff last night over MSN, tho what I said was, make the activeadition link forward you to the posting guidelines thread, that way members have no excuse for not knowing them.

I’ve added links to the Forum Policies and Posting Guidelines on the confirmation page that new users see after clicking the confirmation link in their email.
And I’ve added a practice area that is subject to be purged at anytime without notice. It can be used for new users who are getting familar with posting in the forums, editing, replying, or testing signatures and so on. Posts in that area will not add to your post count, and you cannot subscribe to topics in that area.
Happy Trials!
