Does anybody have it yet and how do you like it?
January 29, 2007 at 10:08 pm #157558SpikeMemberIt officially comes out tomorrow, January 30th. I know a few retail stores that will stay open tuntil midnight to release it.
I think it’s not all that great. With all the features I think it’s a bit of a memory hog, and you need the latest and greatest hardware to run it, which most people don’t have (with my experience as a computer tech at a local computer shop). Plus it’s damn expensive for the best version (the only one I’d every get).
February 1, 2007 at 2:34 am #157559Jon8RFCMemberI haven’t gotten around to installing it yet but, I have a buddy that installed it recently and he said that the memory footprint was just a little more than XP. It could’ve just been issues with the work-in-progress.
newegg.com & zipzoomfly.com both sell the full OEM version of Ultimate for $200, Business for $150, Home Premium for $120, Home for $90; that’s where I’ll be getting copies for everyone. That’s the same pricing as XP, WAY off from the price speculations about 6 months ago. At first, being a power-user, I thought I’d go Ultimate, but Business does everything I want since I have zero intention of doing anything remotely like XP Media Center Edition does. And, even though I’m a power user, I’m not a corporation with classified information, so I don’t need the extremely beefy encryption–the only two differences between Business and Ultimate would be 100% unused by me and nearly all of my clients (I can only think of one client that I’d get Ultimate for). Business seems to be the way to go, and it’s a solid 25% cheaper!
