Hey, I am looking to start up a website where I can post my schedule of when I work on it so people can look at it and know when I am free for them to work.
To be more clear, I do computer work and I get a lot of calls with people asking me my schedule, so it’d be usefull for me to lay out a schedule online of not who I am working for to preserve privacy, but for it to lay out when exactly I am going to be working and to show my free hours.
I am willing to pay 5-10 dollars a month, with the normal setup fee, beause I know with sites like Yahoo!, NetworkSolutions and Tripod, you can get a lot of usefull features with a small budget. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of good, reliable sites that I can start this on. I am also looking into purchasing a domain name for this too, but most web hosts handle this for you as you are starting up the site.
Also, if you have any recommendations as to there being a way to make the schedule be automated. I wouldn’t mind receiving e-mails from people saying when they want me to work, but I would think it would be much easier for me to set up an SQL database with information about people and have the calendar behandled in that too, making it all automated.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, and also if anyone can think of a forum that is more focused on this subject matter as well, I can try posting there too. I have just had a long history with BigBlueBall of knowing exactly what is right and being very reliable.

Well Doug, I have found this site to be on of the most versitale, and free website-hosting-sites. It has an SQL database, and many, many more features. You can do alot and (if you want to expand with things such as scripting, coding, etc) pay little, as low as $2.95/mo., it’s a winner in my book…
godaddy offers hosting plans starting from $3.95 a month. godaddy is probably the cheapest web host/domain registration site on the web. i have used their hosting and domain name registration before and they are great. everyone has their favorites though.
if you are looking for a free hosting solution i highly recommend t35.com. their ads are easy to block. another great free web host is 5gigs. they have no ads and offer similar options to other paid services (80MB space, 5gigs transfer). one down side is that you have to use their url (username.5gigs.com). you cannot get any type of redirect. also, their registration is frequently disabled to control signups (you will have to wait a while before they activate it again). if you have very low traffic, like 3-4 views (or less) a day i suggest that you use a free host because there is no point in wasting money.
there are many calendar /scripts/ available. they will usually require php and mysql support. http://easyphpcalendar.com (most like what you want), http://availcheck.com/, calendar script list. i have no use for a calendar, so i can’t say i have used any of these.
Spike informed me that 1and1.com had domains cheaper than godaddy. 5.95 a year, compared to 8.95 at godaddy, a few bucks always makes a difference.
i use 1and1.com for my hosting, and so far i’ve had no complaints. i wish i had a bit more functionality, now that i have other things i’d like to do with the site, but… i opted for the cheap package since i was a bit short on cash at the time.
overall, great service, i recommend 1and1.com
You could always use a local site if you have a fast connection. But I use nelhost.com for my main site. They have reliable hosting.
Actually I found it all. I found to use
http://www.site5.com for my hositng
and then
http://www.godaddy.com for my domain name
It works out well, under 100 per year, and i get 3 gigs of space and 50 gigs of bandwidth a month, plus unlimited SQL databases, emails, and basically anything you can think of. The site is very reputable too.

I see they list PHP, SQL, all that… but since my current host only supports ASP, that’s what i’ve gotten to know and use (tigerblade.net is heavily dependent on ASP because i have no other options). i’d really rather not have to go through and recode everything, even though i’d probably end up doing that anyway because i could…
