OK recently when chatting with a friend on YIM I was told there is a program that lets people see what u are typing who u are typing to and where u are , if you are invisible and so on and so forth( ok yes, we all knew the risks downloading messengers ) but, I was told with this program all a miscrent needs to do is ” try ” to add u to messenger ( even if you deny it ) it still adds them and then they are able to see everything that is happening.
I didn’t ask the person anything more about the program, I decided to block them instead figuring if this person knows about such programs they are not a person I want to be in contact with.
Here are my questions
1. Is there a way to make sure this doesn’t happen?
2. Is there a way to make sure that if take them off your list they are not still able to see everything that goes on?
3. I’d like to know if this is caused because of the winks, smileys and other ” plug-in” related stuff if someone can somehow exploit them
4. if we can get a toned down version of yahoo messenger?
5. Does using things like Trillian and Meebo keep incidents like this from happening?
I would appreciate some input on this issue as I feel it concerns all of using these messengers.
Thank you
Carrie

typing to is if you have a keylogger on your computer. The only other way for
them to be able to tell who you are talking to and what you are typing to
them is to have control over the Yahoo Server(s).As for someone being able to add you with or without you know. If the right
packet is sent and you are offline or invisible then yes you can be added to
their list without you knowing. If you are Online then you will get an add request
as you normally would. If you deny them your name will be removed from their
buddy list. Remember this requires a certain packet to be sent. This does not
apply if the person trying to add you is using Yahoo Messenger. As for someone seeing your online status. Right now the only accurate way
someone can tell your online status ( even invisible ) is if you have the name
they are using to scan your online status on your buddy list. If the name they
are using is not on your buddy list then your online status will always be offline
to them. Yahoo changed the way the P2P works making it harder for people
to scan other peoples online status. Also keep in mind that Yahoo might change the way Yahoo Messenger logs in.
As they no longer have to worry about java chat and Chat2 anymore. More to
the point its like when you hear Yahoo is going to start charging people to use
Yahoo Messenger or that Yahoo is running out of screen names and if you
want to keep yours to send the message to everyone on your list. It’s nothing
more the BS. Someone had nothing better to do so they thought they would
start something stupid.November 3, 2006 at 6:19 am #154017CarriemeawayplzMemberThank you for your input . I appreciate the help .
