I’m curious: Has anyone ever heard of the next version of Windows coming out? It’s codenamed Longhorn, and it’s set beta release year is 2007. What are your opinions on it, and if you have a link to a site describing it, post it.
EDIT: MSDN Library: http://msdn.microsoft.com/longhorn/
Good description of Longhorn’s features: http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/longhorn_alpha.aspSeptember 9, 2004 at 12:42 am #72727ys8er2323MemberQuote:quote:Originally posted by spikeI’m curious: Has anyone ever heard of the next version of Windows coming out? It is actually coming out in 2006 and going into beta next year.
Go here for great Longhorn info.
My opinions of LH: Well, DRM is the worst “feature”, and yes it is enough to make me switch to Linux as my main OS. It isn’t going to be all too great, some features are going to be ported back to XP…so things should be interesting without LH.
September 9, 2004 at 1:13 am #72728kyuubiMemberRight….I have know this for awhile now, and yes the release daye is 2006, it will go into beta in the next year, in compition with Apples 10.4 Tiger. To be honest, I don’t know what to expect with the new OS, but the only think I hope is that Microsoft make this one as bug free and as secure and as quick as possible. It is already said that C++ and .Net will be used in this one and possibly some Linux. Some say it is overhyped and I would probabely say so, but with all the compition around and more people turing to Mac, I think microsoft could not afford to lose this one. New software was said to be included including a new version and hopefully a more secure version of internet explor and more. So…we’ll wait and see…in my opinion, Linux and Macs are still the way to go…

How exactly do you think ‘Linux’ would be ‘in’ WindowsNT?
I won’t be upgrading for this one, by 2006 I hope to know enough about Linux to fully convert.

Maybe your talking about WinFS? Windows Future Storage. Microsoft announced a few weeks ago that it will not be shipping with WindowsLH.
I’ve used Alpha 4053, but I think they have started over since then.
