From the research I’ve done on these boards, I’ve gathered that a lack of audio with MSN Messenger can be fixed by looking at:
1. your firewall (I’ve disabled my Norton Internet Security and still no audio)
2. your RTCDLL.DLL (per this thread at https://bigblueball.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5851 —still working on this)
3. your router and if you are behind one that may be blocking the Messenger audio. My question is regarding #3. How do I know if I am behind a router that is blocking my audio? I have a standard ADSL connection with a standard ISP that only allows one PC to go online at a time. As far as I know I do not have a router in my apartment—only an ADSL modem. I’m not sure though. Don’t know much about this router business (actually, I’m clueless). Is it possible that my ISP is using a router that is blocking the audio? And if so, how do I find out which router is being used (I know there have been problems with MSN Messenger and Linksys routers)?
I’m able to test the RTCDLL.DLL angle tomorrow, but am hoping to get some input on the router angle, because from what I understand this takes priority in solving the lack of audio problem.
How do I know if I’m behind a router and what would be my next step if I am? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
