After 4 years chatting with someone on icq…icq suddenly
doesn’t send messages. We see each other online, but
no messages sent ever arrive to one another. We both have xp, and the only change recenly made for
either one of us, is that the other person did the XP update
thing right before icq started to act up.Has anyone had this sort of problem?
February 13, 2003 at 3:31 pm #64460Jeff HesterKeymasterI don’t have hardly anyone on my buddy list that still uses ICQ (although I know there are a lot of users still out there). I’m running Windows XP SP1, but use ICQ so infrequently that I couldn’t say if it’s been working for me or not. Send me a message via ICQ and I’ll let you know.

I also use xp, and I have noticed that when the firewall on my virus protection is on, it happens, when its off, I rarely have a problem, but I dont know if that is really what causes it. Could be just a coinsendence.

The friend and I never use that firewall with XP. That was one of the first things we thought of.February 18, 2003 at 6:10 am #64461melneeMemberWell, I started out having the problems you mentioned here, for about a week or alittle more. Now, ICQ has lost its mind! I am not showing any contacts online, and it keeps switching me from invisible to online, on its own. I have restarted it, and gone online, and I am shown as offline in the contacts of my friends, and the one person that never goes offline, is gone. Its like it has a mind of its own. One friend will message me about 10 times and then finally tell me to speak ass, my mouth wont, and suddenly I recieve that one. LOL Does anyone else have all of the same problems? I have done nothing at all different, no updates, no changes, no additions of any kind.
Should I uninstall and reinstall? I am in no way a computer whiz, and I only know the basics of turning it on and making it go.
I believe my ICQ may be possessed!!!!:mad:February 24, 2003 at 11:25 pm #64463xerraireMemberMelnee
I have had simular problems, and also tried a complete and thorough UNinstall of the program
reinstalled the newest, it won’t even work for me at all, I got a solid yellow flower. So. Went back
to the older ICQ, I can still only send and receive mesages while ‘online’ not while visible to another.
So I can’t say a reinstall will help you. I suppose is worth a try. -
