MemberI have problems with my dvd player on my computer. I can’t hear anything. when I play a cd, I can hear sound fine, so its not a cord issue, it just happens with dvds. its not the dvd program because I used three different applications. any ideas?

MemberIt’s either your sound card or your Windows sound settings, it’s not your drive. You could also have sound incorrectly set up on the DVD movies themselves, if you select DTS for exmaple, and you don’t have a DTS system, nothing will play. Your DVD drive is fine, though.

Membersound for videos may be muted on your system. do you hear sound when you play a non-dvd video file from your hard disk? if not you might have a low or muted video volume setting. you can adjust this in the control panel under sound settings (or through the speaker button on your system tray).

Memberactually, yes, I can hear sound from my computer games. that works fine. I looked in device manager, and “nvidia wdm video capture (universal)” has a “!” by it. I tried to look for updates, but it said that I have the most recent version. how do I fix this?

Membersorry for double posting…
I could uninstall it… but would windows come up and see a new device plugged in? I don’t want to uninstall it without a way to reinstall it again.November 6, 2006 at 7:23 am #151948Jon8RFC
MemberIf you go into start>control panel>sounds and audio devices>click on advanced>click on options>properties>check ALL boxes for playback, then unmute cd player and all the rest, raise the volume on each…does that work?
I know that was a long chain, but hopefully you can follow it along.

Membersorry, it wasn’t muted in the first place. Just to clarify: I have a cd/dvd player, and I can hear sound from the computer games I play. however, when I play a dvd… no sound.
Update: I also tried uninstalling that “!” I talked about earlier, and sure enough windows wanted to install it when I rebooted. I came up with the same error… something like the device was not able to start. It worked when I first put the computer together, and worked for a while after that. only recently did it decide not to play 🙁

Memberok, I love it when it happens, but I also hate it.
it just started working. I have no idea what happened. I love it because it works now… but I don’t like it cuz I don’t know what happened. my first thought was maybe an update was run in the background, but I looked into that, and that didn’t happen. o well… at least it works. 😉November 17, 2006 at 4:47 am #151946seb_thib_55
