MemberI’ve heard that it was dangerous to use the Norton Removal Tool on Windows Vista, that it can cause a Blue Screen of Death.
I wanted to make sure of this. This comp came with Norton and I want to replace it with Comodo Software.

MemberWell I saw posts hinting that it did cause a problem but they updated it relatively recently but I don’t want to take that chance. I need to confirm this.

On this Symantec web page, it says that the Norton Removal Tool is compatible with Vista (mouse over the Download button in Step 3). It might be prudent to do a normal uninstall of the Norton programs first, then use the Norton Removal Tool to clear up the excess gunk (P/S Wolverine, if I’m wrong in this, please let me know).
P/S On this Symantec web page, it says (and I quote) “Use the Norton Removal Tool to remove a failed installation or a damaged Norton product.”

ParticipantYeah, that’s probably the best way to do it, Philip, but it sounds like he hasn’t decided if he’s going to remove it yet. I highly recommend AVG Free, but that’s just me.

ModeratorI’m using AVG Free 7.5 on Vista. No problems. And Comodo Firewall Pro (also free) isn’t bad either.

ParticipantI used the Norton Removal Tool on Vista Home Premium with no issues whatsoever on two separate machines (HP and Acer – laptop and desktop.)
