I have not been able to recieve offline messages now for about 4 months. I have done everything I know to try and fix this problem including suggestions from Yahoo Customer Care but nothing works. Hoping someone else has some suggestions.
Thanks ๐January 11, 2006 at 2:18 pm #135936MartinBradleyMemberWelcome to BigBlueBall, silky.
Your problem has come up before here at BBB. Have you tried searching our forums for a possible solution? If not, check here to search.
January 12, 2006 at 4:04 am #135943silky1949MemberThanks for your welcome Martin and your quick response.
I have tried searching the forums and cannot find anything that will help me.
I had the old messenger and had no problems then I upgraded and all sorts of problems accured.
I have the new messenger with voice now, but have tried going back to the old version with no success. I even had my computer reformatted and still no good.
I’m so confused as to what to do next:confused:
Thanks
Silky:)January 12, 2006 at 10:56 am #135937MartinBradleyMemberI don’t think there is a definitive solution to be honest. It seems to be a problem that many people are having, suggesting it’s a Yahoo! problem rather than something at your end.
Keep your eyes open though, something might crop up. ๐
January 13, 2006 at 10:31 am #135942RELLMemberHi Silky,
I had the same problem with not receiving offlines as well as my yahoo often crashing and reopening all by itself…i deleted my id..then immediately picked it up again..using two windows to be sure of minimum lag time..this fixed my offline problem..and has greatly reduced my yahoo crashing..its pretty drastic..coz u have to add ur contacts again(though all my old contacts could still see me)…but im now glad i did it..
Good Luck
RellJanuary 13, 2006 at 7:05 pm #135934NettiMemberIn regards to Not receiving offline messages, there really is no definate positive answer, but many theories out there.
Here’s mine.
Lately Yahoo has been updating it’s servers with new filters, and new software, etc. When the do update they do not update the enitre network at once, they test a few servers at a time and see how it goes.
I have heard in so many forums questions like, why am I showing ONLINE even tho I am not, or questions in that regard. Well this would be a perfect example as to WHY some people are not getting offlines.
If Yahoo thinks you are still logged in, then it will send you the pm from the person. However you will never get that PM because you are not truely logged in. So the PM gets lost in yahoo cyber land, never to be seen again.
What I have suggested to people is to do the following and see if it helps.
First sign into yahoo games on the front page of yahoo. Then sign into yahoo messenger, and go about your chatting.
When you want to log off, click DISCONNECT from the drop down menu at the top. Close Messenger. Then go back to the games web site that you are logged into, and click “log out”.
This has helped a few people because it was forcing yahoo to disconnect them. However others have said that they logged into Java front page, then clicked log out and that also helped.
Until Yahoo gets things straightened out, we just have to try to live with it.
Even recently there has been issues of what I call “the disappearing pm line”. Meaning you get a pm, and you type back and forth, but not all of the lines come thru, or you assume someone stopped typing because you stop receiving anything.
It seems to be worse if you are in a chat room and in pm.

Silky ๐January 18, 2006 at 1:15 am #135939narayananMemberA similar encounter, I logged into Yahoo through Gaim in my Linux box, showed I did’nt get any offlines. When I had logged into Yahoo in my Windows box, I saw a couple of offlines with timestamp ever priior to my Gaim login.

I have tried what Netti suggested but no luck..I’m not sure if I want to delete my profile as Rell suggested because my computer connection on the net is very slow and maybe couldn’t get back as quick as suggested… anyway will keep trying.
Thanks everyoneFebruary 7, 2006 at 2:44 am #135946silky1949MemberHi everyone ๐
Just wanted to let you know that I have fixed my problem.
I did what Rell suggested and it worked!
It’s a bit drastic I know, to delete my profile but I had run out of ideas..and lucky I got it back ….had just lost all my friends list..
anyway, I want to thank everyone for your help. Thanks heaps
Silky ๐February 8, 2006 at 11:36 pm #135941Eagle_KiwiMemberHOORAY !
Glad u got a good solid (we hope) “fix” there, Silky. And thank you very much for reporting back…. that’ll doubtless help others who trek down this same path. ๐
February 11, 2006 at 1:28 pm #135935curtisg43228MemberOr if netti’s theory is right then you can always turn on message archiving and just check that. Then you know for sure you get just about everything..

Silky ๐How do you delete profile? I am also having the same problem, not getting offlines, sometimes getting them too late and the time is not correct either. I would like to try deleting my profile and making it again. Can you tell me how to delete the profile? also, if i delete my profile i will lose the contact list, but will i also lose the message archive and emails?
Thanks. -
