KeymasterI downloaded ad-aware & spybot primarily because they are spoke of often on this site. After I downloaded them ,I started both programs. Each one searched for spyware & ads . Once it listed them I clicked fix these problems. It got 3/4 of the way done and then gave me a not responding error.
I went to msconfig and tried running them in safe mode. Thinking if some program I have on my computer was conflicting with them it would be better in safe mode. No such luck. Same thing.
I tried deleting them and found both are as hard to delete as spyware itself.
I finally got them deleted and tried to do a fresh install but the same thing occurred .
Would anyone know how to fix this or how I can get these programs to actually work?
Just in case you need it. I have windows xp, running Nortons Internet Security 2004 . Internet Explorer 6.0
Please don’t tell me to stop running Internet Explorer because its what I’ve chosen to run ( a personal choice if you ) Surely I am not the only person who has ever gotten this error.
Helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

MemberIt happened to me too a few times. This is how I got things to work. FIRST, run Ad-Aware and remove the spyware it finds. THEN, run spybot and it will get rid of the other ones. After this, everything should work well. Hope it helps.

ParticipantYou say you started both programs… you aren’t running them both at the same time are you? That could cause problems…Also make sure you don’t have any other applications running at the same time…. I have them both installed and haven’t had any problems yet… Love em!

MemberJust as a casual point of interest the Official Spybot Search & Destroy Forums http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?act=SC&c=7 is worth a quick look by users of Spybot.

Both programs stop functioning?
I have had issues with Spybot S&D lagging, it freezes about halfway through the scan for a couple of minutes, then continues scanning. Thats the only problem with either of the programs freezing i’ve had.
So if your problem is the same (or similar enough) as mine, then I wouldn’t worry.
