KeymasterFunny that Nathan (die, Trillian, die) would be pointing us towards a like product.
I haven’t tried it, but I did take a gander at the screen shots and was unimpressed. I like the concept (a plug-in extensible instant messenger), but the reality is, there are that many networks worth plugging into. What else would you add? An Odigo plug-in? Probably not.
The other thing that I didn’t like was the interface. I realize it’s still under development, but the interface is definately in need of a makeover. Functional? Maybe. But for something that spends so many screen hours on my desktop, I want something a little easier to look at.

MemberTrillian is the bigger fish of the two. Not enough people use kopete to worry about it.

MemberHere is an alternative IM client that works with AIM,Yahoo and MSN and that is Easy Message which can be found at http://www.easymessage.net
Just some observations before you take a look at the client:
1. Its very apparent that the developer of this software, downloaded MSN Messenger, reversed engineered it and redesigned it to make it his own. You can easily tell this by the type of sounds he has associated with the client and the graphical smilies are the same as the ones used with MSN, don’t know if there is some legality issues involved there but…
2. For AIM I can tell it’s utilitizing the NOC AIM protocol, because its not bugging me to view someone’s idioitic avatar (no offense Jeff since I know avatars are used here), this is very cool because the NOC protocol, is open for anyone to use unlike OSCAR which other clients like Trillian have been trying to use.
3. The software is still buggy, you will encounter the BSOD at least once. I have been reassured that the next client that this individual releases, will address those issues.
4. Its small, which means less resources are needed to run the application, another plus in my book (maybe because my computer is a dinosaur).
Well there it is, if you would like to check it out after knowing ahead of time what the client is all about, I encourage you to do so it looks very promising.

MemberHey guys,
I’ve been directed to this conversation by a back link. I’m the developer behind Easy Message.
As a response to Bushwick:
1) I reversed engineered all messengers. I’m making the interface more like MSN because MSN and AOL are in the lead in terms of messaging, and I link MSN’s interface better.
2) I use the OSCAR protocol for AOL and ICQ. I just haven’t implemented Avatars.
3) Try the new beta…
http://www.easymessage.net/beta/setup.exe
username: em2
password: polish
it has several connection bugs fixed.
4) As far as resources go it seems to be THE best
Hope this helps,

MemberWell dang it Ryan,
Now I have to give you the only black mark against your product.
I perfer the TOC protocol verses OSCAR (more reliable against, AOL’s monopoly like practices)Other than that AWESOME job, keep up the good work.

MemberI guess the link Nathan had provided is no longer in use. The new website is: http://kopete.kde.org – wonder if any of you have used Kopete in the recent months, if so how is it?
