In the words of our ex-president Clinton, “I feel your pain.” (gawd, I can’t believe I just quoted him!)
Odigo can be a pain, and it’s definately prone to network slowdowns during high volume time periods (like in the evening). I think that might explain some of the problems you’ve experienced. When their servers are overloaded, you’ll have problems sending and receiving IMs, updating your profile, or (probably) adding or removing people from your buddy list or even adding another messenger plug-in!
Is it overated? Well, Odigo hasn’t changed much in the past two years. The company seems to be focusing more on wireless messaging applications. I think they’ve been passed up by newer, jazzier applications like Trillian.
I still have Odigo around, but I don’t rely on it for connectivity to other messaging networks (I use Trillian for that). And I don’t use Odigo every day, or even every week. It can be a fun way to meet some new people though.

Did you get your copy from http://indigomessenger.com/ or http://www.indolink.com/ ??
If so, this may well be the wrong forum to be asking those questions. Note the spelling.
Its a branded product powered by Odigo but may not be a current version.
Switch to Odigo and see if there’s a difference.
