Is there anyway of knowing if someone is receiving offline messages. It has been awhile since I have talked to someone and sent some. I know that if they reply then I know. But I know that sometimes people do not receive offline messages because of problems. Thank you

MSN, Yahoo, …? also, you may be able to find out if anyone else has asked your question already with the search page.
again, welcome to bbb and enjoy your stay!
May 11, 2006 at 8:47 pm #144299williamleeMemberhello ttyd and welcome to the Big Blue ball.
Well I am not sure about your question as I am not sure which messenger your referring to. As far as I know Yahoo and Msn there is no real way of knowing if your offline message were ever recieved unless your buddy tells you so. If they say they never got them well I guess if they are really our friends we should give them the benefit of the doubt as that is how I would want them to do for me.
But feel free to check out this forum site we have a lot to see and we are all about IM tips and tricks as well as fixes.
We have an IRC chat area you really must visit and an arcade for members sporting 10 + post.
The Staff and the members here are friendly and willing to help out all they can and a little FYI if you have any questions about a certain instant messenger if you post in the proper forum you will get the best possible answers we have to offer. and once again welcome to the Big Blue Ball.

May 12, 2006 at 10:31 am #144297Eagle_KiwiMemberHi, and welcome to BBB from me too, TTYD. 🙂
No, I don’t believe there is any way to be SURE. If you send me an IM when I am offline, ASSUME I’ll PROBABLY get it, but don’t necessarily call me a liar if I say later I never saw it.
In fact it seems just a small number of people who DO have troubles with receiving offlines – with most people (e.g. me) you can be 99.9% sure that any IM you send will reach them.
And in case you send one just at the moment I’m going offline – so it might flash on my screen and then vanish, never to be seen again – I make sure always to have my message archiving on, so I can check back if ever there may be doubt.Only once in many years have I established (via both our respective archives) that an IM WAS sent to me, but was NOT received by me.
I hope that ramble may be of some help, TT.
May 12, 2006 at 12:44 pm #144303ttydMemberThank you for all your help. I was also wondering I know that this person that I have not talked to in a long time might of changed using a new id/account. If they do not have it for the people to find is there anyway other way of finding.
May 12, 2006 at 5:41 pm #144298Eagle_KiwiMemberHi again, TT.
IF they’ve made their info available then http://members.yahoo.com/ ought to find them – but as you suggest if they’ve chosen not to, then you’d have no way that I know of.And as far as your IMs to their original account, if they don’t respond that COULD mean they no longer use that account, OR that they’re just choosing to ignore you – or even that they’ve actually put you on “Ignore”, I guess. 🙁
(If so, PERHAPS something like “BuddySpy” or “Block Checker” might help you, but I’m not personally familiar with such tools).
June 3, 2006 at 9:51 pm #144294sjnMemberThere definitely seems to be a problem with getting offline messages today. I just tried several test messages using my multiple Yahoo accounts, and NONE of them were received!!
I do know that if Yahoo “thinks” you are still signed in, you will not get offline messages. However, when I do sign out, I use the menu option “Close and Sign Out.”
Maybe others with multiple accounts can test this out too.
June 4, 2006 at 3:42 pm #144295sjnMemberJust a follow up to my post from yesterday: changing my proxy settings to “Firewall No Proxies” seemed to do the trick! After making the change, my offline test messages suddenly all appeared!
However, I don’t recall ever having adjusted the proxy settings before, and I never had a (known) problem in getting offline messages before.
June 5, 2006 at 4:50 pm #144300moraMemberUnfortunately it doesn’t do the trick for me.
I haven’t been receveing offline messages for a while now, and at some point I gave up, just told all my friends that I am in closer contact to that I don’t get them, so they shouldn’t be mad at me if I didn’t respond to offlines…June 5, 2006 at 5:06 pm #144301moraMemberBesides, I read in this forum that changing the connection settings from no proxies to firewall with no proxies creates a series of problems with voice, photo-sharing, webcam, etc…
And I agree with sjn, I also don’t recall having ever changed settings, and earlier I could get offlines with the same settings as now, i.e. with NO PROXIES.
So it is and stays a mistery to me why I don’t get them anymore…

So I went back to the original settings. Now everything seems to work just fine – I sent a number of test offline messages with my multiple accounts. However, it is very odd how a window with all my accumulated offline messages suddenly appeared after changing the settings to “Firewall no proxies.”

This solution solved my problems too. I would get offline messages on one account but not the other. I am so glad to have this resolved. It has caused me some grief. Thanks so much to whomever suggested this. It took me a couple hours to find this answer.
August 28, 2006 at 5:07 am #144306Amy31481ParticipantMy webcam does not appear to be affected in any way either.
August 28, 2006 at 4:26 pm #144304tim2679MemberChanging your connection settings to Firewall with no Proxies will limit which features you can use. Any feature that uses a direct connection will no longer work. This is not a bug in Yahoo Messenger, it’s because you told it to act like you are using a firewall. So it is assuming you can not get direct incoming connections.
You will not be able to enter chat rooms using the messenger. When trying to load your webcam it will tell you that the Server is busy (cause it can’t connect to it). The File Transfer and Call features may be effected as they uses a direct connection.
Using the Firewall with no Proxies is kinda like using Yahoo’s Web Messenger
