online status

hi,
something weird going on with online status hoping someone can tell me what is going on .. i keep checking the hide online status box but it keeps coming unchecked every so often .. why is this happening and how can i stop it ?

You mean when you sign in or when you are online? If it is when you sign in it could be that someone else uses Yahoo! and unchecks it… or sometimes if you enter the wrong password accidently it does that as well…at least it used to do that…it has not happened to me in a while…

Otherwise…does anyone else use your PC?

i am not sure when it is happening .. i had it checked and then someone said something to me about being able to see my status in my profile so i went in and checked it again.. then a few days later i went to edit my profile it was unchecked again so then i started to keep an eye on it and noticed everytime i check it that it becomes unchecked sometimes hours later sometimes days later .

ahhhh….you mean your status in your profile…I thought it was the one in your messenger. Sometimes you need to recheck the box when you update. Also, double check your profile once you update it to make sure that your status is unknown. I know that I’ve tried to update my profile from time to time and the changes I made did not work. I think it might have something to do with the servers and whatnot. HOWEVER, if you find odd things happening to your profile and/or messenger signing out…some one might have your password. Just keep an eye on it. You may also want to scan your PC for spyware and viruses…then change your password just for good measure… that way if some one is playing with you because they have your password…they will not have it any longer. 😀 Good Luck!!

thanks oreo, i did double check after i changed it , i also changed my password, one time it was three days before the box was unchecked. oh well…. i noticed something else though.. the other day i was just sitting in front of my computer and was invisible and looked up and noticed messenger logging me back in.. i never even logged out it was just a quick flash and then i was being logged back in , no notice saying i was logged into another computer or anything. already did the virus scans etc.. but thanks for ur answer .

I have seen the ‘online’ lit up on a persons profile for weeks, knowing 100% that have not come online. Once I went away on holidays and my friends told that on my profile, ‘online’ was showing as online the whole time.

As a reminder to myself as to if I am invisble or not, I added myself to my own messenger list, if my ID is showing I know that I am visible, if not showing then I know i am invisible.

Make sure you press the finished editing profile button under the check box. If the status fails to remove from the public profile, then repeat the process again.
