MemberOccassionally, my buddies will have an idle time of several hours, but an online time of just a few minutes. How is this possible?

Participantthere are various “instant idler” programs available which allow you to set your idle time to be whatever you so desire. most of the time you might not be able to tell, unless they do like you’ve noticed and set it that way.
also, it’s possible that they have in fact been idle for several hours, but their internet connection was quickly reset. sometimes the connection will resume and keep the idle status, but reset the online time to zero.

I think that’s much more likely to be the case. I know a few of my buddies keep appearing like this every other day or so, and I know for a fact they don’t have instant idlers, or would even know how to use one. The cable or DSL, whatever they might be using, is probably just having problems.

Pidgin (Gaim) comes with a plugin (I’dle Mak’er) that lets you do this without modifying any dlls or bothering with anything.
If you are using AIM 6.0 you can use Gus Verdun RX-Plugin which comes with other things as well.
You can also use Instant Idler. This works for AIM 5.2 – 5.9. You can download it from AIM Enhancements. I have also uploaded it here (for your convenience): Instant Idler 5.2+ (Enter the confirmation code and wait a couple seconds).
I haven’t tried RX-Plugin or Instant Idler because i don’t have a Windows machine, but i can tell you for sure that Pidgin’s I’dle Mak’er works flawlessly.
