I found an article-type thing regarding an open source law and thought it would be interesting to see what everyone thinks. The main topic was about a law that would force companies to make their software open source 3 years after its support ran out.
Do you think companies (like Microsoft) should be required by law to release their source code in full of its outdated software that hasn’t been supported for three or more years?
Mixed. Open-source software is good for people to learn from and it’s often very useful for people who develop similar software. On the other hand, people can make personal modifications to software.
But, as soon as software becomes open source, you can definitely forget about still earning money from it (as company). It’s relatively easy for users to remove copy protections (et cetera) from open source software.
