ParticipantAt oldapps.com*, I found two smaller versions of AIM 5.9 (less bloat?). I have only tested one of the two, the oldest which is also the smallest (by about 1-2 mb). They also appear to be available via AOL’s FTP’s. The filesize is much smaller than the other 5.9 versions. I’m really surprised to have not seen these versions on oldversion.com or mentioned on this site much. I tried searching for them, but found nothing on this site.
I could be screwing up here, so am I missing something? Is there something horrible about these other 5.9 versions that warrant them less talk even though they have less garbage in them???
Also, why does AIM 5.9.6089 seem to get no mention? I’m just curious – really curious – about the different 5.9 versions and why there only seems to be one important one.I thought 5.9 had a You’ve-Got-Pictures auto-popup, but I can’t seem to have it happen on Windows XP. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Also, how does AIM Canada‘s final release (5.5.3598) stack versus our version of 5.5, which ends at 5.5.3590?
…and any idea what “np” stands for in the FTP folders like follows?

MemberI have every single version from 4.8.2790 and up.
Index of /aim/versionsThe bloat that happens in version 5.9.3759 is not AIM itself getting bloated, but the installer. AOL started packaging more stuff you can install, the main thing being the AOL Browser. You can opt out of the installations and then delete the sysfiles folder within the AIM installation folder, then delete the AOD folder form c:Program Files
As for international AIM versions, there’s hardly any useful difference. It’s pretty much small stuff that might not be noticeable unless you’re looking for it…text type things. Also, our AIM 5.5 versions continued from build 3590 to 3595, 3598 and finishing at 3599. I used 3599 religiously until version 5.9.3861, and now 5.9.6089.
So yeah, I’m the only site out there with all versions of AIM 4.8.2790 and newer, and they’re all legitimate, unmodified installers. Take a peek!
