January 25, 2004 at 7:17 pm #50747DJHyperbyteMember1. Our first question comes from AnimeUSA: Fixer, care to explain what’s behind Otsego’s name? Maybe why you named it Otsego?
ok, well me amd morphia are like static-x fans, and on every cd of theirs they have a song with otsego in it
2. Our next question comes from CyberBuddy: I am just wondering how old you are?
17, i turn 18 this year
3. Asked by Dave: Will you be releasing the VB source in the future?
im not sure about that, but who knows it could happen
4. Our next question comes from Andrew: What was your inspiration behind this project?
Well I was just kind of sick of making small programs and decided to make something that would take awhile to program
5. did you get inspired by other add-ons?
yea, there are some great plugins out like middleman, aimutation, deadaim, i just got sick of some because they never got updated to work with the beta versions of aim or you had to pay for them
6. Well that answer brings us to another question from Rob[xL]:
With the constant updates of AIM will you be devoted to keeping it working with the updated versions of aim, or is it just going to be released and you will hope it is compatible for as long as possible?ill update if there is a bug that needs to be fixed or if a new aim beta comes out and something has be changed, I usually use the beta versions of aim right when they come out
yes, it looks like you have most of the major features people are looking for in the AIM client, so I don’t think you will need to add that many features until later on in the future.
7. Our next two questions come from DiB:
How long have you been programming? What would you suggest to people looking to program in the aol/aim field?I have been programming for couple of years in different languages. If you want to make a plug-in type program then you should look into windows api which can be used to interact with other programs
8. Fazian asks: When did you start working on Otsego?
im not really sure i think november of last year, i started a post on aimlabs to get feature ideas and other stuff like that
9. Shawn00 wants to know: How will the logging feature work? Will it be able to import logs from other AIM add-ons?
it will log when a IM comes in or out, unlike deadaim which waits until you close the IM window or chat
right now it doesnt have a option to import logs10. Do you have any plans on adding that functionality?
I haven’t really thought about that, but I guess I can look into adding that.
11. Josh is curious to know: What will set Otsego away from all the other add-ons for AIM such as middle man and AIMutation?
I guess it is some of the commands it has to control winamp, and some of the special characters it ads to aim that you can use in your profile or away message
12. Speaking of logging, Someguy03 is wondering:
How will the log files be stored, in text files?html files
13. Axilla asks: Why did you decide to use VB to program the add-on?
well i was going to program it in c++ but then decided to do it in vb because i learned c++ 4 years ago and havent used it for awhile, a future version will be in c++
14. ArmeDMonkey wants to know: is it possible that you would add features if there is a strong request for them” and “is it possible that you would add the feature to do msn-style popups only for users for whom you have alerts set for?
yea if a couple people wanted it i would add it
15. detn8r is curious to know: Will you be charging for the add-on when it is released? Or anytime in the future?
nah, i dont think i would ever need money that bad
16. pullme: Will we be able to categorize away messages? Also, will there be an option for any random away message to be put up incase we are in a hurry?
as of right now there is not a option to categorize away messages, if you wanted to do a random awaymessage you could just set a awaymessage with %rq which is a randomquote, you can edit the quotes or add more if you wanted
17. detn8r has another question: As of right now do you have a sponsor to help you out like Messenger Plus! does? Bandwidth is definately going to be a big issue for you.
many of the people from aimlabs know that wildwookie is a sponsor for that site and they said if i ever needed a mirror all i would have to do is ask
18. Zatticus36: I noticed a screenshot from your website that displayed the General Options menu, on that menu there is a Mobile Login option, what exactly will that do?
when you sign on to aim, if you have it set it will make it so that there is a lil phone next to your name
19. Will this forward the messages to your cell phone? Or just fake it?
well it makes you look like a cell phone that can respond, so it does not forward anything
20. JBEST: Will it allow you to sign off AIM without the phone? The new AIM betas keep your screenname on if you just close the internet connection. The only way to sign off would be to sign off from the phone.
it just makes it look like you signed on as a phone, so when you exit aim or signoff, it signs off
21. assassda: Will there be a command to go into mobile mode, such as “/mobile”?
it has to be set before you sign on, but if you wanted to hide it you can go into the aim preferences and under privacy disable the option “allow users to see that i am using a mobile device”
22. Johnny is wondering: Will there be a encryption feature? If so, will you offer free certificates other than the ones currently at aimencrypt.com?
there isnt a encryption feature but there is a feature to make it look like you do, and it just adds the lock next to your screen name on the buddylist
23. Someguy03: Will Otsego be able to work with other add-ons such as middle_man or AIMutation?
it should work fine with aimutation, but as many know middle_man sits between the aim client and the aim server and otsego does the same, i may have to change somethings if people wanted to use it with middle_man
24. Skiazo: Will Otsego be able to support skins, similar to AIMutation?
right now it doesnt have the option to skin, it may in the future but im not sure
25. mm_phasedma: Do you plan on offering support for Otsego? Maybe a support forum?
it will have a support forum
26. AnimeUSA: What instant messaging client do you use?
aim 5.5.3553 i believe
27. FuzzyWuzzy: Because logging is going to be in HTML format, would it be able to log images as well?
i havent set up the directconnection logging, but i do plan to have it log files
28. mm_mm_good is curious to know: Will third party developers be able to develop plug-ins that work with Otsego?
yes
29. mm_phasedma: Did someone teach you how to program or did you learn it on your own?
Some I took classes for and some I learned on my own
30. mm_mm_good has another question: Will Otsego support other media players besides Winamp such as Windows Media Player, MusicMatch or I-Tunes?
i have been looking into adding support for others media players,I havent found a sdk for i tunes so im not sure about that one
Can we expect support for Windows Media Player though?
ill look into it
31. ern: How many pixels is the login screen image?
190 by 150
32. Josh: What add-ons did you use before you started development on Otsego?
i was using aimutation, and then i was using nothing for like a week or 2 while making it
33. mm_jeff903: Will the logging feature be able to log the real encrypted conversations (not the fake ones)?
yea
34. Jus_LAXn_ERN wants to know: Will you be able to add more than 200 people on the buddy list?
no
Are you planning on adding that feature?
if i find a good way of doing it, i will
35. mm_phasedma: How much time are you going to devote to bug fixing?
how ever long it takes to fix the bugs
36. Ok, we’ve got two questions from Zimmerz:
1) The program will allow cloning, how many clones will be possible?
2) Also, will it be possible for Otsego to gather information about your computer, such as processor speed, and memory, and put it into your AIM profile?the amount of clones possible is the amount your computer can handle, also it does show info about memory, i guess i could add more features like that
37. And our last, but definately not the least question: When will you be releasing Otsego?
I have been adding more features, and i need to do some more testing, so i will release it on the 31st, but if i finish it before that it will be on the site
Great!
On behalf of the BigBlueBall.com Staff – Thanks for your time Fixer!
Great we are done! lolThanks to everyone for your input!

January 26, 2004 at 3:31 am #50748AtlasParticipantOK there is support for iTunes with Otsego (sort of). Someone at the aqua-soft.org forums by the name of LocalHost made a plugin for iTunes (works best with the current version) that’ll not only skin the windows version of iTunes to make it look exactly like the Macintosh version but it also makes any program for winamp recognize iTunes as winamp. You can download this fine plug in here

Make sure you have the lastest WINRAR to unpack the file.
If the link dosent work (some have experianced problems) or you dont have WINRAR IM me on “Ice Brewed Beer” -
