ParticipantI have AIM version 5.2 with AIMutation.
Whenever I open up Outlook Express, AIM automatically opens up. If i already have an AIM open, a clone of AIM opens up. I do not know why this happens.
Any ideas?

MemberWoohoo! I have a fun thing to help out with since I had this problem a couple years ago 😀
I can’t remember EXACTLY what the deal was or which of my two suggestions (or both) fixed it, but disabling the outlook preference thing was one part of the problem if that alone didn’t solve the issue.
The first thing to try is to open up AIM and go into the preferences. On the left-hand side of the window, click on sign on/off. Look to the right an uncheck “make AIM my default instant messaging program”.
See if that does the trick before you try this next one.
The second thing I know was a problem with something but I can’t remember if it applied to Outlook or not, but it was a very common solution to some problem. If you have Norton Antivirus, open up the program and go into the options for NAV. On my version of NAV, the options window can be accessed by clicking on options at the top of the NAV window. On the left-hand side click on instant messaging, now look to the right and uncheck AIM. Again, I can’t remember what this fixed, but it fixed some AIM problem. You can always go into your AIM preferences and click on File Transfer on the left-hand side, then click on the antivirus button on the bottom on the right-hand side. Point it to wherever NAVW32.EXE is, or set it to C:Program FilesNorton AntiVirusNAVW32.EXE
Let me know if it was just the first one that fixed it, or if you had to do the second one also. I don’t think you’ll need to do the second one, but it was THE solution to some problem that I and many friends had well over a year ago, but I can’t remember what it was because I’ve since gotten into the habit of preventing it from happening alltogether, so I never need to go in and do any fixes anymore.

Member.gulp. now Windows Messanger pops up

MemberHmm, that’s a new one to me…I’ve never heard of that happening.
Even if you use MSN Messenger, this won’t uninstall it, so just read along. Open up add/remove programs from the control panel. Click on add/remove windows components on the left side. Aftr a short while, a new window will pop up, scroll to the very bottom to “Windows Messenger” and uncheck it, then click next.
Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger are two different IM Programs, and you most likely don’t use that one, you probably use MSN Messenger. See how that works out.
