Is it possible? I don’t think its possible for MSN but what about others? Not a bad idea, but a little too late.
It’s pointless for MSN, because Messenger Plus! already has pop-up smiley help that includes the “secret” MSN smileys.
And there’s already a program for Yahoo that does the same thing; it’s called YEmote!

Ok, ok…. Don’t tell anyone… but I added an “All Smileys” option to the end of the list. Happy now? π

Member“i thing that it should be like an AIM add on so youll just click on it and the code will just pop up in the box that you are typing in get it??”
A lovely idea, but it isn’t as easy as it sounds. And I’m not speaking for Jeff here, since I know he is way smarter than me… π
For that to work properly given the current version of AIM, you need to send a message to the browser to process a URL. That is fairly easy. The problem comes in that the URL needs to contain the ScreenName of the person you want to send the smiley to. There is no way (that I have found) to get that information from AIM into a web based application. So you would have to type in the destination ScreenName before it could be sent to the window, and retype it every time you changed to another conversation. This can be quite annoying.

We’ve got the animated smileys (although they’re not animated in the select list), and all the same sets you see at the ansme site. The difference is that ansme uses the exact same categories as AOL 8.0, and we’ve streamlined that a bit, combining some of the related categories. I think it makes it easier to use, but I’m always open to other opinions, so if you think otherwise, let me know! π

Smarter than you? Hah… you’re too kind! But Fuzzface is right. There is no good way to do this with a web page (which is what Smiler is, after all). It could be done with an add-on program, which I might pursue if I find myself with loads of free time (yeah, like that will ever happen!). π

Memberthanks for the info π
its too bad you cant connect to the aim server via a web ap. that way you could load the persons buddy list to a drop down menu each time. Despite that being a pretty neat prospect, the amount of effort it would take would just be rediculous, and you might as well make a full blown add on. So the web ap works fine.
Of course, unless you wanted to include a CHOICE between the BBB text field and a specific IM. like so…
[ ] Send Code To Text Field
[ ] Send Code To Screen Name:
and you could probably do a frame seperationso the sn wouldnt dissapear when a new smilie catagorie was loaded. then just fool around with the javascript to add whatever is in the text box to the smilie code, rendering something like this:aim:goim?screenname=hooray4dolphins=:-p
which works. I dont know how hard that would be, or if its worth it, but its definatly possible.
PS – if you recognize that screen name, 10+ for you π

Memberwould it be possible to make the normal AIM smiley shortcut menu reference a different set of smileys than it currently does? For example, make clicking on the one that currently produces “:-)” and have it produce the code for a different smiley, for example “π” instead
I have no idea where that code would be located in the AIM program, but if you could tell me where to find it and/or give instructions on how to change it (if it can be done at all), that would rock

MemberCan you possibly put animated smileys into its own category? I have no idea which ones are animated and I would have never known if i didnt read the previous post a few days ago. Thanks
