MemberHello, I just purchased this GS320 3CCD camcorder and I want to use it as a webcam in my computer. It has both USB and Firewire outputs. On my previous camera, a Canon, I used the firewire output and a program called Trackercam and it worked great! Now with this camera, I can’t get it to work that well. I discovered I have to go through something called SplitCam and that is possibly dramatically slowing down the data transfer. I used to be able to use the super webcam mode all the time and now it doesn’t work. Can anyone help me?

KeymasterYou might try WebcamDV. I’ve used it with a Sony DV camcorder and it worked great.
It is a commercial program, but there is a free trial download. I wrote about this on my blog way back in 2003, but it should still work.
Be sure to let us know the results.

MemberSo I’m on a different computer now… When I plug in the camera via USB, XP detects it, but the drivers don’t install. However, when I go to my computer, and see and open the device, it brings up an explorer window showing the live video without an issue. But when I go to yahoo, start the webcam, with “usb device” selected, it just shows a black screen, but appears to be broadcasating because it shows the frame rate, frame size, under Statistics. It also says Image Capture as Direct Show. I don’t belive I have any direct show thing installed on here. How do I get that? Is it part of Direct X? Is there a Direct X alternative? I don’t want to install any bloated take-over-the-computer microsoft products if I don’t have to…

MemberWere you ever able to resolve this? I tried my PV-GS320 via USB and get the same black screen but broadcasting deal as you. I’ve tried this in XP Home SP2 with YIM v 7 and Vista Ultimate SP2 with YIM 9. Both give the same black screen but are recognized as web cams by the systems. In both cases I can switch the GS320 to DV mode and import video over USB and firewire ports.
I have a Logitech QuckCam STX Communicate that works fine in both XP and Vista but it’s my nature to play around with my toys 🙂

MemberHi, yep I got it to work, but not via USB. I use the firewire cable and use the free trackercam software and it works great with that. Here’s a link:
