MemberOkay, I am trying to get into my old abandoned ICQ. I have the number, but I don’t know my password, nor the e-mail–if I ever provided ICQ with that. There’s no other way to try to get the password, but to install or register another way.
I really want to log on to the old one to see if I have old notes. I keep trying to remember, and trying different password ways, but it doesn’t log in.
I am asking to see if anyone has any other SMART tips that I may not be aware of to try to retrieve my old password. Thanks in advance.

MemberI am no expert when it comes to that. Hopefully someone like Shmanky will know.
Anyway… Since you have your ICQ number, you can try going to http://www.icq.com/whitepages and type the number in. Maybe you can see what the E-mail address was that you used for ICQ and maybe you can log in the old E-mail and get the password.

MemberYeah, if you knew which email address you used when signing up for ICQ, you would visit http://www.icq.com/password and have your password sent to your email address. But if you don’t know what email address you used, you won’t be able to use the service.
But try it anyway. Go and enter in any email addresses you have used. Of course if you no longer have access to the email address or if you didn’t enter an email address, you can’t use the retrieval system.
Brian’s suggestion is good, in that you can use the whitepages to see if there’s an email listed. Although, the whitepages and/or client info viewer has a tendancy of hiding the email address sometimes.
Another possibility, is if you still have you own ICQ database files (youricqnumber.dat), then you could extract your password from those files. But I don’t expect that’s the case.

MemberAlso, the ICQ was installed in a very old Power Mac computer. I erased a lot of things from there, and it’s just in a box. I wouldn’t know how to retrieve it. I believe that I never provided my e-mail at the time of registration because it was optional. I am trying to use this by launching ICQ without downloading it. I’d need to decide again if I want it before I download it.
