MemberHas anyone heard any rumours about MSN Messenger becoming a pay to use service?
Apparantly it has even been mentioned on the TV show Screensavers on Tech TV.

ParticipantIts more than likely that you are mixing up the recent news that MSN Chat rooms are being shut down and offered as a subscription service. MSN Messenger will remain free to use.

Memberactually shifter i have also heard the same thing. they are wanting to do this for teh same reason they are shutting down msn chat and taking it to pay-to-chat service. what i haven’t figured out though is why msn is the only one shutting down. yahoo, aol, brave net, mIRC, there are all harbors for predators. and just to get my piece of mind in, if the parents would watch what their kids are doing we wouldn’t be going through this crap. anyhow yeah i have heard the same things of messenger too. what i ehard is that messenger will go to pay-to-use services 3 weeks after msn chat goes down. and yeah they can do it id09. its not like it would be hard or anything. currently i am trying to find the source codes for msn chats so that i can start my own chat services on my own server to keep people goin. and screw what people think. my server, my deal. if you are scared of predators don’t bother coming.
oh yeah and, WATCH YOUR KIDS FOR GOD SHAKE…September 28, 2003 at 10:41 am #90041shifter
ParticipantWell, a rumour is a rumour. Show me a source and I’ll believe you. Otherwise its just the same old bs. MSN Messenger will remain free.

If someone is providing a service to you, they have every right to ask money for it. Microsoft can ask as much as they want for their MSN Messenger service, MSN Passport service, MSN Hotmail and everything else they provide.
